Yeah, I called the ranger station earlier this year and asked about the Herring Creek and Reservoir campgrounds. A tree fell on the bathroom a couple of years ago and they are still repairing\rebuilding it. There is no fee for either so I don't think there is much motivation for them to get either of these campgrounds open any time soon.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!

From what they have been saying in their posts, they have already removed over 160 dangerous trees from the area around the campsite.

So... they should basically say what's REALLY going on: "We've done a piss poor job of managing the area around this site for a number of years, and allowed the campsite to go to complete disrepair. But now we're going to "fix it" by shutting it down for half the summer."

According to FS estimates, one of the campsites MIGHT open this month, the other wont open until at least mid August.

I thought that was for Hull Creek campground, but I'm sure it is the same story all over. All the more reason to dispersed camp, just hope that people are good stewards of LNT principles or the dispersed sites will get ruined or shut down too.

    I always say that!

There’s something about digging a whole shitting in and burying your poop!

Although, I’ve recently adopted packing out almost all my waste.

You know, you're right. The last report I saw was for Hull Creek. But the story has been basically the same for Herring Creek

The entire problem on Hull creek is even more bullshit. The snow has been melted there, and it has been accessible for probably a month longer than Herring Creek.

That’s for sure. We work with them on overlapping projects and they’re always scrambling. Stanislaus NF has like one year around maintenance crew.

Plenty of firefighters though. Just like the graphic shows.

Has anyone seen the lower section of 3N10 lately? It appears that's where all the tree removal activity has been focused. I barely recognised the place.

Going to be at Utica side trailhead... to start Slick Rock at 9:00 AM tomorrow.

Looks like we're doing Slick Rock and Deere Valley tomorrow. And camp at Tamarack Lake.

We're going to explore around Tamarack, Blue Lakes etc on Sunday and then camp at Lost Lakes Sunday night (should be meeting @silvertep, I think he may already headed up there).

@silvertep is going to do Forestdale Divide OHV and Strawberry Pass OHV with us on Monday. Then out to 50 and then home.

@Impoy47 MIGHT be joining up with us at Tamarack or Lost Lakes.
