He'll get you a TRD with a manual, and charge you for taking off all the TRD stuff and slapping on SR stuff.

The truck you want will not be built by Toyota. If you want a Taco with a manual transmission, you must get a TRD of some sort.

Gotcha. bet I’d be the first to badge swap from TRD to SR wonder what the TRD sport comes with that the SR doesn’t besides fender flares?

y'all are 100% right on this stuff. He was looking at allocations to get me what I want “but not sure of the exact truck / model” not a order thing that’s why it’ll take so long and it’s not a SR :( which is why price is a lil higher than I expected. I really want an manual but not sure if it’s worth the extra $

The manuals cost less than the automatic.

The Motor Trend article I linked to above suggest that, those who are looking for a manual, are best off buying a TDR Off-Road, as its price would be comparable to a decently optioned Automatic SR5...

35's would be heavier than the stock size tires and require more power (more stress on the engine) to turn them and also change the rotational inertia of the wheel. Usually that would be accompanied with making changes to your gearing so that you're not losing so much power.

So did they write off your truck? Or was this a just incase thing? FYI given current pricing of Tacomas you really should consider keeping your current truck if they fix it.

Nice choice. When my 2012 got written off by a head on collision, I went for manual transmission. The buyers remorse is easy to fix on round 2!

Not written off, but I’m concerned with how long it will last and I’m not sure if they warranty / stand behind the repair. We’ll see. My truck is perfect for what I want aside from current mechanical issues and it being auto trans..

If you have time and money, then find a manual truck from junk yard and then take it home... build it up then stamp it as your own..

Boom you have manual truck. Then you can sell your auto truck.. or you can keep both.

@saint277 this is a good point. I’m wondering though if I’d be better off to trade it after repairs are done (reduce risk of prolonged issues with bad repair etc) or keep it because I like it and it’s cheaper to keep her?
    Some info…
-My current SR is valued at $30k on Kelley Blue Book (assuming repairs complete)
-new TRD OR base model with 4x4, 3.5l and manual trans is $38k on Toyota build sight

    what do y’all think?

Good advice about keeping the truck because it would be very hard to find Tacoma since not many available on the lot..

You would have to wait very long time before you get one. The next shipment for new '23 models would possibly be in the Fall unless something comes up that cause production to stop; meaning chip shortage, whatever it is.

Doubt the dealer will give anything close to kbb for it in trade. You would most likely need a private sale to get your moneys worth, I think keeping it till the market calms down a bit is the right call, if it gets fixed. Its not just what your truck is worth right now, its also the months of weight time involved and the classic, we had a truck like the one you wanted but sold it yesterday.

I recently traded in my Tacoma and I got the KBB trade in for after being told (from different dealerships) things like "we don't use KBB" and "no-one gets KBB" and, in fact, I got $5k more for my 18 Tacoma Off Road 4x4 V6 6MT than two other dealerships offered. In the end, I had two different dealerships offer me full KBB trade in for it which is what I ended up getting for it so it is possible but it all depends on your patience level. Here is one that, to me, looks a lot like yours. It's a 2020 Tacoma V6 4x4 w/65k miles on it, dealership is asking $37k for it. I bought my 18 Tacoma exactly one year ago, I put about 3k - 4k miles on it in one year, I did one oil change to it and I got $2k more than I bought it for. Shop your truck around, definitely trade it in for the tax savings. I would consider shopping for a used one, used prices are all over the place. In fact, I would shop the deal as much as possible and here's what I did :

1.) Secure your own financing first, I got mine from a local credit union offering 2.5% for up to 60 months.
2.) Don't overpay in dealership fees, get your deal in writing first, ask about the fees up front.
2a.) One dealership wanted almost $2k in fees.
2b.) The dealership I got mine asked for $250 in paper work, $25 for title, $6 for license fee, that's it.
3.) If you're shopping for used trucks, make sure you lookup the monroney label, if you have to buy labels then buy the label first, they cost about $7.99 per label and I think it's well worth it to know EXACTLY what you're buying.
4.) Make sure it has a clean carfax if you're buying used.
5.) Make sure you get what you want, don't settle, you can get a good deal if you shop around!

This is good advice, only thing is carfax. Carfax being bad is bad but carfax being good does not mean clean. So many cars out there that could have been salvage title if reported correctly, driving around and being sold with clean carfax. If you don't know mechanical and body well, get a quick inspection at any repair shop (does not need to be a dealer)

Yes, you are absolutely correct, you must do your due diligence and thoroughly check out ANY vehicle you purchase, new OR used!
