but how would anyone know or care if its a special dividend share? Its not like it looks any different on your brokerage account? Its not like everyone can track their specific dividend share (yes if 100% of retail went to drs theoretically they could) All most people get to see is that their share count went up x4, if it was a dividend share or the borkerage (via mm) just penciled in extra shares whats stopping that? so what if the dtcc gives you only 35 million shares? fill in the rest with more fake IOUs and it all looks the same to the retail investor

if the war in Ukraine ended, this market would take off like a rocket

 

Or inflation dips. If both happen in temporal proximity hang on to your butts.

 

All shares issued are serialized for tracking purposes. I think there's some confusion when people hear "synthetic" shares. It's not so much they're printing shares out of thin air, it's more to do with options manipulation, borrowing, and failures to deliver. New shares can't be willing into existence, but you can definitely use options contracts to show that you have more than you do.
