My build was 6/30. Currently in Transit. My dealer said today it should be in Kansas City within 2 weeks.

Odd - My Tacoma TRD Pro was most assuredly built in Mexico and sent on to Veracruz, MX for a boat ride to the US, per what the VIN says and what @Rod03 said. 3TYCZ5AN6NT089527 - and I thought that the T in that was a plant in Mexico.

That would be awesome, I think - and as long as you get a great truck, who cares?

2022 Barcelona Red TRD Sport DCSB MT 4x4
Hello I am a longtime reader and new member of the Tacoma family! This forum is amazing and this thread has been particularly helpful. Last week I bought a barcelona red TRD Sport DCSB MT with LED/premium/tech (though was initially looking for one in army green and with advanced tech). It's fun to drive especially with the manual, and the tech features are a nice upgrade from my previous vehicle.

As many others have done, I wanted to share my timeline in case it helps those who are still waiting:

Early February - Contacted/researched about 30 dealerships within a 50 mile radius. All but 4 were charging markups, which ranged $700-10000. Two of the MSRP dealers were very easy to work with and communicated well and were actually willing to submit preference requests to Toyota for me; one did so without a deposit and the other charged a $500 non-refundable deposit (dealer 2 said to expect a 4-6 month wait). Another MSRP dealer was not taking requests but said they would let me know if they received any allocations matching my criteria. The last MSRP dealer required an in-person visit to the dealership to submit a preference request, which I declined.

Early May - Dealer 2 received an allocation for almost my exact truck, except it did not have any tech package so I had to pass on it. Dealer 1 had an allocation for a silver one with LED but no premium or tech packages. Subsequently told dealers 1 and 2 to expand my request to include army green, barcelona red or lunar rock, and either tech or advanced tech packages.

Late June - Still waiting for an allocation. Found a match on local dealer X website which was in-transit and unreserved, but they were not willing to negotiate their $4000 markup at all. Contacted/researched nearly every dealership in adjoining states and most were either charging markups, or if MSRP they were not selling to out-of-state residents. Found another match using the kissmygrits spreadsheet but dealer was 3 hours away and had acquired the truck via trade so it already had over 100 miles on it. Touched base with dealer 2 and they actually replied asking if I wanted a particular truck which they could get in trade from another local dealer Y. I turned that one down due to a few reasons including unknown mileage, but I asked if they could instead trade for the one I found at dealer X. Fortunately that truck was still available and both dealers were willing to trade. It had already arrived on the lot so it did have a front license plate bracket, but otherwise had not been washed/prepped and only had 5 miles on it. I told dealer 2 to get my truck and to not prep/wash it or apply any badging. They did the swap that evening and I purchased it the very next day (for MSRP).

The best advice I have read on this thread was to be proactive and work with multiple dealers if at all possible, especially if you are looking for an uncommon configuration as I was. The spreadsheet is great but only lists already-built Tacomas so they might have non-modifiable port options at that point and might already be reserved. I would echo another member's suggestion to keep dealers' new inventory websites open on your computer and refresh them every day. The allocation system was frustrating for me, because dealers 1 and 2 had been preferencing my build for almost 5 months without acceptance, yet dealers X and Y both received matching allocations despite them not having a buyer.
