Cracking open cases always make me nervous. There's a lot going on in them. I don't envy you right now.
Last month I was working on my old quad that had been sitting for about 5 years. It's an 89 Yamaha badger 100cc. I got it new when I was 13. It was locked up. I pulled the head and water got into it. Thankfully it didn't get past the rings. Cleaned it all up and honed the cylinder. Just waiting on the new carb to come.

 

I did that right after but I think I only found a GX200 and a much larger GX crank.

Jimmie is going to see about sourcing one first.

At the same time, he's throwing some science at me I'll have to try tomorrow.

Yeah after pulling the head and seeing that, I would've probably stopped

I will say I was genuinely surprised with the cylinder



Pulling the head off revealed a ton of carbon build up



Cleaned up pretty well with just a scotch pad



I've yet to work on cleaning anything else. Thinking I'll do that once I've got parts ordered up and ready for assembly.

 

A little elbow grease goes a long way. If it got onto the crank case I would have been highly discouraged.

 

That looks clean did you get new rings?

 

I doubt this thing has received any love.

Hell, the oil was old and burnt as hell.

But as for anything new, no I haven't purchased anything yet as I only started making up a parts list.
