    So I’ve installed the new diode dynamics SS5 pods for ditch lights with their harness, works great, however, I just bought an Auxbeam 8 gang switch panel and I’d like to wire them to it, however I guess I cannot use the wiring harness they came with, I emailed diode dynamics and this was their response:

    “Thanks for reaching out! If you are going to use an aftermarket switch pannel, you will need to make your own wiring harness and connect the main beam of the SS5 to one input and the backlight of the SS5 to another input on the switch pannel. If you have any other questions, please let us know!”

    How would I go about making my own wiring harness so I can maintain backlight functionality as well as the standard beam? Any ideas? Kind of hard to believe they don’t sell a wiring harness for this type of application…

    Well apparently they are telling me that it can be done, I just don’t know how to go about making a wiring harness or just wiring them to the switch panel, I understand putting the backlight and standard beam in different inputs but I just need a way to wire them to the panel if I’m making sense

    I got you! I’m standing in an airport security line at the moment, but I’ll explain it all once I get to my laptop. Long story short though you’ll end up not using that wiring harness or just scavenging wire from it.

    Okay here it comes!

    Wiring up an SS5 (or similar Diode Dynamics backlit product) to a switch panel will require tying up 2 switches in order to make them function properly in most cases. The SS5 is definitely one of those situations where 2 switches are generally required because you need to cycle the backlight if you want to change backlight colors. One switch would be devoted to the main beam, and one switch would be devoted to the backlight. All backlit Diode Dynamics products have a guardian built into them such that if you are supplying power to BOTH the main beam as well as the backlight the main beam takes priority and the backlight will go out.

    Here's how to wire everything -
    1) Skip the relay and switch that are part of that wiring harness altogether. You will be running wires DIRECTLY to the switch panel. That Auxbeam unit has on-board solid state relays so the relay in the harness is redundant. You can cut apart that harness or pick up some properly gauged wire and wire that way.
    2) Run the RED (main beam) wire from the SS5s to one of the ports on the Auxbeam panel. I can't remember how much each one supports so make sure you're grabbing onto one that supports the load necessary for your lights. I can help with this if necessary.
    3) Run the BLACK ground wire to a good ground somewhere on your vehicle. I recommend an existing vehicle ground.
    4) Run the BLUE (backlight) wire to another one of your switches. I recommend using whichever the smallest one on your panel as the backlights pull nearly nothing.

    More info about how the SS5 backlights work incoming... But this should give you a start.

    SS5 Backlight Standard Feature Set:
    Cycle backlight switch - Will turn on backlight to "last known" color.
    Cycle backlight switch QUICKLY (on/off within a second) - Will cycle through backlight colors on the SS5.

    Knowing this you could theoretically wire the backlight to something like ignition, parking lights, DRLs, etc. However, you'll just need to be careful that you're not wiring to something that is going to get signal multiple times quickly in a short period of time (ex - A non-delayed ignition source will power on/off/on quickly as you start the vehicle). If this time window is too short you run the risk of changing your backlight colors every time you turn your truck on.

    Really quick, I’ve installed the auxbeam panel but for some reason the backlight on the switches are being fed constant power (always on) even when the truck is off mo matter what fuse I tap into, any ideas?

    You need to take the little Red Wire from and run that to an Ignition fuse or something like that which only comes on when the truck is on. If you have a Multi Meter you can test your fuse block and figure out what is always hot and what is only hot with the key on.

    The problem with the inside is running the wire inside the cab, it’s not long enough..

    I have tried every single fuse in the engine compartment and in instantly feeds constant power to the switches

    Just chiming in, seen people say on here to use the fuel pump *edit: relay. Only know that cus I was researching for the future. Haven’t tested whether that’s true or not

    my electrical knowledge is really bad, but the thread I found said they tapped into the fuel pump relay and it worked
