Does anyone have both an offroad built tacoma and a dirtbike? Is it worth extra cost of the dirtbike to explore offroad in that way to you or would you just stick with only your truck if you could do it again?

Riding a bike is nothing like simply pushing a gas pedal. That’s like asking if a jet ski is worth it if you have a big old boat. It’s an entirely different experience.

I had a different truck but the dirt bike allowed me go go places I couldn’t in the truck. I really enjoyed it and much less of a risk messing up the DD.

two different worlds, even if it's the same road/trail...

not, so much of a comparable experience

get a dirt bike, take some lessons, put it in the truck and you'll enjoy both differently

Strange question. Is a television worth it if you have a stereo?

Agree with the above. Starting out you may be doing the same trails and stuff with both. But once motorcycle skills improve, a dirtbike can explore trails and places even an ATV wouldn’t dream of.

It’s excessive for sure, but wheels, dirt, and engines are what motivates me to wake up in the mornings.
    I have:
    (1) LT Tacoma built to explore and haul the mail offroad / DD
    (1) Midweight street bike to cruise winding roads / DD
    (2) Dirtbikes to ride on Motocross tracks / OHV parks and trails
    (2) Mountain bikes to ride trails near my house that motor vehicles aren’t allowed

upkeep and maintenance is a bitch, but each serves a specific purpose and is their own experience. Even the duplicate ones.

    See @Sterling_vH111 post above.

If you don't want pinstripes on your truck, then be careful where you go on trail in the trees area. Which I suggest that you go on open trail where the trail has no trees around. Colorado / Utah for example. If you don't care about scratches or dents, then go for it and have fun in the trees area which more fun and more challenging.

Not sure what the trail situation is in your area; but around me there are a ton of awesome looking 50” and under trails and motorcycle specific trails that you can’t do in a truck.

Now if you asked if it was worth getting a side by side; it would be slightly more debatable… as they’re stuck sharing the same trails (and around here on national forest land you can’t legally drive a non-road legal/registered SXS on many of the forest roads). Sure there’s still fun in a SXS, but certainly a smaller gap.

Have both an way different experiences but both cure my dirt therapy. The bike is certainly worth it, covers ground faster and can go where the truck can't, certainly a bonus if your buds ride too then it's a no brainer.

+1 for getting a bike. In college, my buddies and I had dirt bikes and 4wheelers. They're a blast! Highly recommend.

Where we rode was mostly abandoned mining grounds that converted into State riding areas, plus a privately owned off-road park. The trails were pretty tight for Jeeps or anything "full-sized"

Something that no one else has mentioned is the potential for damage. Dirt bikes are cheap! Like $1,000 gets you decent 2-stroke 125cc. So even if you total the thing, you're out a grand. Whereas, if you total your truck...the bill is significantly higher. Plus, if your truck is your only vehicle, it would kinda suck if that was your only way to get to/from school/work.

One last thing! Get insurance for your bike (if you decide to get one). Not for damage purposes, but in case it gets stolen. Ask me how I know. I didn't have insurance :(

I have always had a SASed toyota truck and a dirtbike. Best of both worlds.

I have broke a bunch of bones from riding dirtbikes over the last 30+ years. I have a funny walk and I cant bend either of my arms enough to button the top button on dress shirts. But they were all worth it. They are an amazing rush and relatively cheap. I have taught my kids and now my neices and nephews. Its just like swimming or driving a manual, its a great skill to have and makes you more aware of yourself.

Totally agree! I would say dirt bikes are "relatively" safe, because at least if you get hurt on a dirt bike it was probably your own fault. As compared to motorcycles, where they can get hurt due to someone ELSE's negligence.

Oh man a YFZ and a 400EX. You just need a 250R and you will have the 3 best quads ever made haha.

I use to race an 05 YFZ but have always had a sweet spot for my old 400EX.
