So, all you eggspurt feescherman. The fires are semi-contained and the rain has alleviated the dangers so the national forests are open again in NM. I’m headed back up to the northern mountains tomorrow where it’s cool enough to breathe. I’ll be camping at rivers and lakes that are famous for the trout. I haven’t fished for trout before so was wondering if you guys can give me some tips on bait and methods. I don’t know how to fly fish so that’s not an option.

Very small hook, very light lead weight...just enough to hold bait a few inches below surface in current, salmon egg or tiny shrimp for bait. Berkley Powerbait works too. There are also Mepps Spinners designed for trout. Talk to folks at local bait shop, or Bass Pro Shop fishing dept. :notsure:

Had good lucky with previously frozen salmon roe wrapped up in a ‘lil piece of nylon stocking. Worms are a good standby too. Like it was said before, light weight everything.

    Thank you sir :hattip:
Yeah, we have plenty of carp, buffalo, gar and cats down here in the desert. I like the cats. The rest are nasty. Occasionally I get a smallmouth or two.
    Okay. Thanks guys.
