Hi guys trying to decide between these 2 cat shield but don't know which one will protect better since miller is thinner but stainless steel and talon is thicker but aluminum .

304 Stainless MillerCAT Cat Shield OR Talon garage 1/4 aluminum

If it were me, I would call each company and tell them they are one of two products you are considering. Ask them to compare themselves against the other product you are considering then make your choice. Often the products do the same job in a similar way but the tie breaker could be the kindness and service one company offers over another, or maybe one shits on the other whereas the other is generally positive and doesn't shit on their competitor - they just tout their product. A cat shield is a fucking cat shield dude so really if you research stainless vs aluminum and cannot decide based on that I would go for more qualitative measures like "How do they treat a potential customer?" and "Is this the type of company I would do business with."

Ultimately it is about having *some* sort of shielding in place that the prospective crook will see.

Cat thieves are all about the quick and easy removal of your property, if they see something on your truck that will slow them down they will move on to the more accessible cat on your neighbor's truck.

This isn't about winning the war, this is about winning the battle.

Source: 24 years in law enforcement dealing directly with turds.

And full disclosure I went with the Talon's Garage version.

I ordered the Miller yesterday. Free shipping made it over $100 cheaper than any other option. They all seem comparable design wise.

I was on the Toyota web site today building a V-6, SR, Access Cab, 2WD and was surprised cat shields are a add on now.

I saw that too the other day. These should be standard.

As a matter of practicality I think any cat-shield would deter. They would see it and just move on to the next one regardless of how
durable or thick it was, after all they don't want to work for it.

These are the two I am/was considering also. I am going with Talons mostly because of how my interactions with each company went. Also because theirs is both a cat shield and a trans skid plate.

I contacted both companies via their website's contact forms. I didn't ask them to compare themselves against a competitor, but I did ask a few questions about their own shields.

I got a reply from MillerCAT the next day but they only answered one of my questions, with 3 words total. They couldn't even be bothered to form a complete sentence, or say "thanks for the inquiry," or anything. My other questions went unanswered.

I got a reply from Talons in about 15 minutes. This was actually just today, Sunday afternoon of Labor Day weekend. They knew exactly what I was asking and politely answered all of my questions. Their shield is actually going to cost me $70 more with shipping than MillerCAT's would have. But I would rather do business with a company that respects their customers.

    Oh look, another mod....
Just because the guy at company B was nicer than the guy at company A it doesn't mean they have a better product or that you should buy their product. It means that company A had a bad employee working that day. It happens. Don't judge the company based off one interaction. One..limited interaction.

I have Cat Security, but don't hold any allegiance to this company.

I would tend to disagree here. I had already decided that both companies are making a shield I would be happy with. This was based on my research of their products over the last couple days, not who employs the nicer people.
The next step was choosing between the two and all I had to go on was this "limited interaction." We're not talking lunch at Taco Bell. For most of us this is a one-time decision, costing hundred of dollars. If there happens to be a problem with my order, I feel more confident that one manufacturer will handle it better than the other, so I went with them. And yes, based solely on "the guy at company B was nicer than the guy at company A." People matter, their actions and attitudes matter. At least to me they do.

This is how I ended up with Husqvarna chainsaws instead of Stihl. I went to both local dealers and asked about the models I was looking at. They were $900 saws at the time- now over a grand. The Stihl dealer threw one on the counter and said, "There it is." I asked him why I should buy it instead of the Husky and he said, "Because I sell them." I smiled, thanked him for his time, and left. Asked the same questions at the Husky dealer, and the owner asked why I was interested in that model, agreed that it was a good choice but offered an alternative both bigger and smaller. I asked why I should buy it over the Stihl and he said, "Really they're both great saws, you can't go wrong. I'll work on either one, but I'm more familiar with the Husky. I'm open all day on Saturdays instead of mornings only. I'd love to have you as a customer but won't fault you for buying a Stihl." I walked out with a new saw that day, and have spent thousands on other saws, parts, equipment, and service over the years, and when I walk in he knows my name.

Buy from someone who cares about having you as a customer.

do all of you live in emission checked states? I mean if someone steals my cats that’s likely doing me a favor I’ll just get the gains of going straight pipe to the muffler…
