Needing to replace my y pipe has anyone ran a aftermarket y pipe? Any good brands or any other information about them?

Curious to know this as well.

I was quoted $300+ for an exhaust reroute to clear a tcase skidplate, so a Y-pipe for a bit more seems like a viable alternative that may also offer other benefits.
I've heard mixed things about the URD one but would like to think that if they're selling something, that it works without issue.

I just don't know how it works with smog.
-if you have to run an O2 spacer or not
-if it will fail smog or not, and if it is detectable such as by visual inspection, OBD2 port, etc.; visual may mean looking underneath with a mirror. Which if they're not well versed in the truck, #1 it will "still have cats" (higher up, main ones), and #2 not have that much visibility down there anyway with tcase skid installed

No idea the sound difference it makes. Hopefully not too loud or drony.
Installed a used TRD catback (OEM) that had highway drone; welding on a Vibrant 1141 resonator inline fixed that.
I've heard from someone with a Y-pipe, possibly headers, TRD catback, and supercharger that it was too loud, but that is more mods.

Boost, armor, lights, big tires, no savings.
JFR is not taking new orders. I sued one would have to be sourced. URD offers two version of the Ypipe. Regular and an Equal Length set up that is part of a complete system. I had the Doug Thorley until the hangers rusted off and decided to go with the regular URD version. All is well.

Whole exhaust is ceramic coated. We all know how beautiful the welds are but I'm going for longevity.

given URD shows out of stock and JFR is NLA

has anyone while doing a reroute removed 2 of 4 cats and replaced with straight pipe
In states where legal of course
I think it’s called the pre cats
Doesn’t sound very hard to do.

    Custom Y pipe I guess
Or would that cause issues like not running right and not be as good as an actual full product designed properly in its entirety

The top cats have long tubes that remove those cats to remove the later 2, which would be any aftermarket Y pipe.

URD used to have one. AFE and a few others do, but the other route is custom. I would say yes, a bunch of people do that. The aftermarket Y not only removes the Cat but the goal is to get better flow and equal length as well since the stock has that big bend i think on the right side.

A couple of folks in the boosted thread have gutted their cats but still have the sensor, so it looks "stock" but has a more passthrough design. Older 2nd Gens can use DT or JBA shortie headers and weld on the stock cats for low-end improvement. Later, 2nd gens are out of luck. JBA used to have an approved CARB exemption, but they no longer sell the set due to low sales. When I called and said sites still had it up, he laughed about adding it back. Not with only selling maybe 10 a year. Dough Thorley had a set of shorties pending CARB Exemption since it came out, but it's pretty clear they have abandoned that. A few of us have tried to contact them, and they just say oh, it's being delayed and SEMA blah blah, but they have a ton of newer makes/models getting approved, so it's likely never going to happen. It sucks, too, as I have 2 sets of new shorties in the box. I was going to put on a set and ended up with a second I would sell.

The CA folks that run Y pipes are in every 2 years swap out the aftermarket for the Stock Y for Smog, then swap back in the aftermarket.

Do you know the measurements between the bungs on each side? I need to modify the JFR I picked up as its for a N/A not boosted. Does not look like I can send you a message.

    @nudavinci64

OP hasnt been here for ~6mos. I bought the final prototype of the JFR. Swing by.. measure the bungs and test fit the skid plate at the same time.

whoops yes makes sense it would delete post cats with Y pipe whether aftermarket or custom

a full Y pipe would probably better just seems no nice ones are available now such as JFR or URD

at least to look stock I wonder if it’s possible to have existing shields welded over where the cat would be. Or if brand new replacements to do that are available given the stock shields are probably rusted.

I’m curious to know reroute costs in other states. In CA it seems to be basically $300+ which seems like a lot for something that minor.
In AZ I had a resonator put on for only $60 not including the part.
At that price point it makes putting a whole Y pipe sound like a better option because it works better while accomplishing the same result of higher routing to fit a flat trans skid which is one of the main goals. That would prevent any future theft with RCIs cat shield wings they sell to fit onto their trans skid.

I think it depends. The guy who did my re-route did it for $100 maybe it was $150 and tossed in a bunch of knomex to wrap it.

ah yah that was more in response to @TacoTuesday1 but yah Imay have to drive down with mind and line it up. The last shop told me to draw where i wanted the bung so it was a bit of a guess at that point.
