    Well, I did something today that I said I would never do. Those of you who may have read some of my other posts in this and other threads regarding tunes know I was not necessarily a fan because of the potential warranty risks (albeit very small risks). Today I did a DIY update of my ECU to the 04C21 TSB and flashed the KDMax Pro+ XT tune lite throttle with the DIY kit that @wahoobie provided me with. @PapaRee told me about the DIY option to overcome my objections of not having a tuner closer than 150 miles away and not being able to flash the truck back to stock if I had to take it in for engine warranty work. They were both very patient with my questions and walking a mechanical noob through the process. I wish all businesses provided their level of customer service!

    I just came back from my first test drive after Chris very patiently walked me through the VFTune and TechStream installations over the phone, flashing the ECU with the TSB, then flashing the Pro+ XT lite throttle tune. All I can say is my old truck is gone and has been replaced by something much, much better :D

    First impressions:
    • The idle is now rock solid. No more watching the tach needle move around 100-150 rpm up and down. Sits at 500 and doesn't move.
    • Acceleration is much smoother and the gears hold longer till the truck is actually ready to shift, if that makes sense. Before it was like a race to get to 6th gear as quick as it could and would just bog down after each shift. That's all gone.
    • I didn't notice any of the old gear hunting. With the stock tune it would downshift when the truck hit even the slightest incline. That's gone too.
    • Lite was the right choice for me. It's not touchy and all and is very manageable at low speed, and my truck is basically all stock. Yea, I have to press on the pedal a bit to get it to go, but it's still a lot more responsive than the stock tune where I had to mash the damn pedal.
    • Just as an FYI, I took at 15.7 mile ride. The tank average MPG went from 17.2 to 17.5 in that short distance, and I really pushed it a few times to see what it could do. I realize that's subject to change until it settles in, but so far so good.
    Thank you so much to @wahoobie for taking the time to make me comfortable with the process and dealing with my nerves, especially when we flashed the TSB, and to @PapaRee for putting up with my 50 million questions and suggesting the DIY solution to overcome my objections. You guys have made a convert out of me! :)

    Oh and I almost forgot....thanks to @JDSmith for also answering questions and for warning me about all those malfunction lights that come across your dash screen while you are doing those flashes. Perfectly normal but if he hadn't warned me in advance I would have had chest pain lol.

    There a lot of tune(ers) out there, but IMHO the KDMAX tunes are the best. Not just because they really improve the performance of 3rd gen Tacos, but b/c Dave & Kreg are constantly working on improving their products to fit everyone's needs; their dedication to quality customer service is second to none; and because their community of professional tuners around the U.S. outstanding! Just had my truck tuned by FrostyTaco-Jeff near Mpls, MN yesterday. He updated my ECU and installed the latest KDMAX Pro+XT tune in my '21 OR. Total professional! Friendly, explained the entire process and took excellent care of me & my beloved Taco. Can't say enough about how wonderful it is to be a part of the awesome KDMAX family, other than thanx guys. You ROCK!

    Trucks been acting kinda funky wrt throttle response and behavior, tried it out in s6 and felt better. I didn't reset values when I flashed, should I consider doing so?
