im trying to put a locker in my 2wd but im also trying to put either 4.88 or 5.29. will they fit in the stock 2wd 5 lug rear ends?

    (edit)
im basically asking if its possible to swap my gearing out my 5 lug axle for any of the gears that the 6 lug axles are able to run

    4 run, 2 don't
Assuming you have a 6 lug?

I'm not familiar with 5 lugs, but a 6 lug rear can be the same exact part whether it's 2WD (Prerunner) or 4x4.

Just remember, 6 lugs have either an open rear end, or e-locked which have different housings. I'll assume yours is open if you're asking about adding a locker.

The fact that you threw in "dropped 2wd" however, can be misleading and imply a 5 lug.

It helps to add specific details, not adjectives.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
It comes down to if anyone makes the gears to fit the size ring gear you have.

I'd put a Trutrac LSD in there instead of a locker, unless you plan on 4wd swapping.

4.88/5.29 are made for the 7.5" rear in 5 lug 2wd and 6 lug axle options

Like @Kwikvette mentioned it matters to figure out/note which axle you have as the 2wd third member will not interchange with either of the 4wd axle third members.

yeah i meant 5 lug 2wd not a prerunner, so reading the other replies i kinda figured that the 4x4 6 lug rear end parts wouldnt end up fitting into mines

im basically just trying to put some kinda locker into my truck if that simplifies it.

ive seen 2wd 5 lugs with a locker, so just tryna figure out what i need.

I can only assume this is so you can drag it? If not, and you're just looking for every day driveability, go for a limited slip, not a locker.

    You also asked about gears.

4.88/5.29's are pretty damn low, especially for a 5-lug. Guys running 35" tires have 5.29's. You might get off the line quicker, but seems like you'd top out at 55mph, lol

This thread should get you going on at least some of it...

well i only burnout with it, which is why i wanted to use the locker to make it two tire fire instead of one and so i can swing some donuts here and there. i know its stupid but i bought the truck to have fun

tbh idk shet about trucks which is why i went on here to try and figure it out.

and for the gears part, guy i bought the truck from said the rear diff had been replaced before but its still “stock gearing” then said 4.10 but isnt stock for the 2wd’s like 3.something?
