New 2.7 in Tacoma?

Hello everyone, just joined this site today. This is a really great site. Although I have never owned a Toyota, it may be my next truck.

I was reading about a new 2.7 liter 4 cylinder that is avalible it the Highlander with a 5 speed automatic. I was wondering if you guys think that this engine would be put in the Tacoma in the future? Thanks.

 

Right now you can get a 2.7 Liter VVT-i engine in the tacoma that produces 159 HP.

Is that the engine they are tlaking baout in the highlander?? Cuz i think the highlander only comes in the V6 and maybe they're going for more fuel efficiency

 

hey, welcome to the site. i have the 08 2.7 in my truck i would kinda doubt the 2.7 in the highlander will come out for the tacoma the 2.7 in the tacoma now was disigned for a truck making in a lil more durable or tougher, i was on toyotas site a bit ago and i didnt see one available for the highlander

 

Yea i didn't see one either.....i only saw a 3.5 L or a 3.3L Hybrid



I bet they will put the tacoma Engine in the highlander. Why change whats already been proven right?

 

i have no answer to your question but ive got the 2.7 in my taco and for a 4cylinder its one tough engine, i wouldnt turn down more ponies but i also wouldnt give up what i got

It is a Different Engine than what we have...Hell it puts out 187HP compared to tacomas 159.

Who knows maybe they will change it since it even has more torque

Thanks for the welcome and the quick replies. I see from the article that hashemg posted, it is a 6 speed auto and with a tow rating of 3500 pounds. Sound like a great engine.

 

That new 2.7 is an enlarged version of the Camry 2.4. It is an all aluminum car engine, but maybe it could be used in the Tacoma in the future. I know I wouldn't mind the extra power, but not at the expense of durability.

 

I have often wondered why almost every engine of size 2.2L to 2.5L in cars such as camry, accord, altima, mazda6 put out both more hp and torque than the Taco's 2.7. Is it really a question of our 2.7 being more durable?

 

I noticed the torque of that new engine is about the same as the Taco 2.7, but the horsepower is higher. The new engine probably revs higher too, but most lighter weight aluminum engines do. I maybe wrong, because I don't have all of the specs, but Autoweek is showing 182 hp and 182 lb ft of torque. They don't show the RPM of those peak numbers though.

 

I just went on to Toyota's site and got the specs. The Taco 2.7 has 159 hp at 5200 rpm and 180 lb ft at 3800 rpm. The Venza 2.7 has 182 hp at 5800 rpm and 182 lb ft at 4200 rpm. Maybe that new engine will find it's way into the Taco. Those increases would be nice.

 

truck engines traditionally have their peak torque at a lower rpm. low end torque is needed when towing or hauling to get the load moving from a stop. that and on the highway this means you can run a higher gear ratio therefore keeping the rpm down.
