I had to add a 1/2” spacer to my superbumps after leaving a divot on the cup as well but that was only to protect the uniball itself.

Weird.....with my TC kit I've got like...1/2" of preload available for safe use, outside of that i'm uncomfortable with how close it gets to coil bind.

Because you have “over cap shocks”. The JD kit runs a standard 8” shock with a raised upper shock mount to prevent coil bind

Damn, divot was the word I was looking for. Too far removed from the country club life these days I guess

To be fair, I wasn't taking the physical limitations of the spring mounting onto the shock into consideration. I was purely looking at the #s for that particular spring.

This ^ Over cap shocks are great for obtaining a shorter collapsed length on the same stroke shock but you loose thread length on the outside of the body.

Now that I have 17” wheels I’m looking at brake upgrades. What year/model 4Runner brakes work with a second gen? Just a straight swap of calipers, rotors and pads or is anything else needed? I’m not finding a lot on the subject, maybe it’s not a big improvement

Here's the whole thread on it. My understanding is that it's an improvement, but maybe not worth the cost if you're not already going to be replacing your brakes anyways. Like it's not much more to buy this stuff versus tacoma stuff, but if you've got functioning brakes right now it may not be enough of an improvement to spend ~$600.

I'm eying the Wilwood BBK as my next big buy and then if necessary, upgrade the master cylinder to go with it. $1800 OTD from 4WP with a coupon.

Oh snap that’s the thread I need. Thanks. Maybe I need a crawl box or a more aggressive pad (ceramic now). I find myself standing on the pedal in 4 low 1st gear trying to control descent on big drops. Not going to get better with 37s.

Reading through the thread I found this, which seems like a good middle ground of bbk for what we need. 6 piston 4runner calipers and then you can choose whatever rotors you want to go with it, so it would be cheaper overall versus going with an off the shelf tacoma bbk

Interesting…I’ve got some research to do. I don’t understand why the brakes are so bad on the Tacoma even stock. Worst brakes I’ve ever experienced on a vehicle.

To be fair, Toyota didn't spec those brakes with 37s in mind :D

Don't direct quote me on this, but I believe they changed the mounting bolt size with the 5th gen facelift. All 4th gens and the early 5th gens 10-13 used 14mm bolts to hold the rotors on and I believe 14-current use something larger like 17mm iirc.

Just something to keep in mind so you don't end up with some loosey goosey calipers of the wrong mounting hole size

Edit: see post below, I had the dates messed up. Turns out it's 16 when the change happens

upgrading your booster to a dual diaphragm model from a tundra will help that. a lot of people swear this is the single biggest improvement you can do

There’s a difference but it seems to be mid 2016 is when the switch was made. It goes into more detail in that thread, but 2010-2015 is a surefire guarantee for bolting up

You could easily adapt wilwood super light calipers to the front for around $500 and put in a dual diaphragm booster for cheap. You don’t have to spend a fortune for good brakes
