The Chinese banking issues actually seem reminiscent of the S&L scandals plaguing the U.S. in the 80's where the farm loans were issued to nonexistent farms, embezzled and then defaulted...There was an "organized crime" element embezzling money (with or without govt turning a blind eye) for years and now there's no $$$ actually left in the banks. They froze the banks from allowing withdrawals so essentially you're not broke...you just can't have your money...
