Super speedways are my favorite races. I did not enjoy this as much as the two true super speedway tracks but it was not boring and the leader was never more than a 10th out front.

That's a problem. It becomes more about luck than adjustments and skill. It's quite literally anyone's race.

the problem isn’t the whole crew, it’s the left rear changer, who also happens to be Joe Gibbs’ grandson, so I doubt he’s going anywhere due to the nepotism.

True, it is a lot of luck but there are always drivers who just do it better than others. Being a Dale Sr then Jr fan tended to like the success they had at those tracks. I also like that the lower tier teams have a shot. I mean the 1.5 mile traditional tracks come down to 3 teams that have a shot and someone walks away to a half a lap lead. No fun in that unless it’s your driver. It would not be fun if it were every week but I like the ones they have now.

It would have been fun to see the 7 get the win. I hope he can pull off a win somewhere but really someone needs to put Corey in a better ride. He can drive he is just in crap equipment. Even had he won he probably would miss the playoffs.

put him in a SHR car or hell, put him in the 3.

I can certainly see where you're coming from, but I just disagree. To me, it's anyone's race and you can't do it alone, but you certainly can be taken out in a wreck that takes out 1/3 of the field from someone making a minor mistake. At least at the other tracks, you can work on your car and make it better. It really doesn't matter at superspeedway style pack racing. Just put the hammer down and don't run into the guy in front of you too much. Yes, some know how to do it a little more consistently than others, but it's more luck than skill or strategy and that's what I don't like. Same reason I hated the 550HP/high downforce package: hold it wide open and hope you got a little better run out of the corner.

I do not disagree with your perspective at all. The flip side is what we had last week where Chase paced the field by 8 seconds through the first two segments then the 8 came on in the last and made it interesting due to the 9's mistakes and they did hit on something in the car but the top two cars paces the field by 20 seconds. That's not much fun either. "Plate style" racing has a place and it is not overdone. I enjoy it. The teams know what to expect when they arrive to do it. Racing needs to get back to what we saw a CMS. They just have to get away from what we saw at TMS. I think we will see more of this style racing as many in NASCAR are calling it the best race of the year. Not sure I agree with that but I do enjoy them. Just would get old if we see this every week.

Given my perspective is coming off of my driver winning. Had that turned out differently, perhaps I would be a bit more salty today.

I was at the spring race in Atlanta and to me it was easily one of the best races I'd ever been to. I think part of it can be attributed to just being there in person vs watching on TV. That said, I still found yesterday's race just as good on TV. I love the new feel and style of racing on this repave. But like others have said I wouldn't want that same thing every single week. I feel we've mostly got a fair balance of racing styles right now with this new car...but I realize we still have a ways to go in this season too.

Also, did anyone else notice how few people were there yesterday? I don't think the stands were even close to being half full. Total opposite of what I saw at the spring race. Maybe more people are on vacation right now, or it was just too hot?

I would say it was because of the heat. Also, it is just more enjoyable to watch from home when weighing the cost. I addended 3-7 race weekends a year back in the 90's. You would get to the track early in the morning and see lots of practice, qualifying and then a race. Friday and Sat were full of action on the track. Every driver had several merch trailers dedicated to them and so on. Now the cost is a lot more, the merch in a tent with the same items you get at NASCAR's site and nothing happens on the track until the race. I feel like they sold out the at the track experience at most places for the TV deal and streamlined the merch to be more profitable to NASCAR opposed to the teams.

    ^this!!!

Phoenix does absolutely nothing to help better promote the fan experience. Selling out a race isn't what it's all about.

I remember how baffled I was when they stopped letting outside food and beverages in. I remember going to Rockingham in the mid 90's. Dad and I would pack a cooler with waters and beer. We would have some homemade fried chicken wrapped in tin foil. We would get to the track at 0700 and would be at the track for 12 hours on Friday. Same deal on Sat then on Sunday you would get to the track and hit the merch trailers one last time. Maybe get down on the track or in the garage to walk pit road then see the cup race and sit in traffic for 4 hours to get headed home. Drivers would routinely walk out on the track between segments of practice or whatnot and sign autographs and chat with people. It was not odd to see team members and drivers out at dinner or wherever around the track in the evenings.

In 2004 I think it was I had not been to a race for 5 years or so because I was away in the military and was stationed in HI and deployed most of the time. I made it home and a buddy had Martinsville tickets for the next day (it was the weekend the HMS plane crashed). Martinsville was a 3.5 hour drive so we set out early. The weather was complete crap that morning. Fog and haze, really humid with a light mist in the air. We set in race traffic for maybe an hour then parked in a wet field. Grabbed our case of Budweiser and cooler and headed off to the gate. When we got to the gate they were like "you are not bringing any of that in here! No outside food or drinks". My buddy was a good ol boy and set right outside that gate and proceeded to try and drink that case of beer prior to entering. After a valid but failed attempt at the two of us killing a 24 pack we got to our seats during the pace laps.

I latter attended a race in Vegas and was not impressed with the at track experience and I would say that is one of the best places on the circuit for fan experience. The weekend cost me over $1,500 for tickets and hotel. Not counting what I spent on food and what not at the track. I also went to Fontana and that was horrible. Nothing around, the racing sucked. It was like sitting in an industrial complex with a race in the middle. I might make it back to a race at some point but I am content to watch it on TV in the current configuration.

I would say the exceptions are Talladega and the Daytona 500. Camping can make it more fun so I get the people who do that but even that is not great at some places. The camping at Vegas is absolutely garbage.

In all fairness, I've been that way as well. I mainly just dislike "plate" style racing. Looking forward to getting back to normal tracks. I'll be at MIS in August. That was a great race last year and hopefully more of the same this year. Although it does hit different when you're not stuck watching the TV broadcast.

I liked it a lot more before the number was moved, but also do like that the red number is back (at least on the roof).

3 car team for now until 45 retires to the front office.

Going to be an awkward 1 1/2 years at RCR though for the 8 and team.

WOW! Great move by 23xi and what a stupid move for RCR to let him get away. I suspect Tyler knows he cannot win consistently and who wants to have a teammate like AD. This is going to set RCR back for a decade if they can even recover.

spot on there! The 3 car and 8 car cannot continue to challenge each other. Tyler knew this and made the right decision. I think this will shotput Tyler's career for the good.
