Normal or Worn Leafs?

I’ve been playing around with tire pressure. I have the front and rear all at 29 but it’s still pretty rough. It kind of rattles the entire truck especially every weekend where I drive washboard gravel roads it feels like the trucks going to fall apart. I’m thinking about going lower but since it’s been over 100 degrees here everyday lately, per the TPMS in the truck they heat back up to about 34 PSI just driving anywhere.

 

looks like you are doing a good job troubleshooting. Just want to make sure some tire shop didnt fill your tires to 60psi. Personally i drop to a max of 24psi for washboard and then find the correct speed for your wheelbase and everything will smooth out. Did you tighten the shackles and front spring bolt with the truck on the ground?

 

My leaf pack wore out and my leaf was flat- nearly inverted- even with an empty bed and I hit my bump stops on nearly every bump. It looks like you have quite a bit of travel still. Looks okay to me.

I upgraded to heavy dobinsons springs. Super harsh ride with nothing in the bed. But they work great once I had all my camping stuff plus a topper. There are lots of great leafs out there for whatever your need, if that's the route you decide

 

Thanks! I've really tried everything and nothing seems to work so I figure its something either with the Eibach Stage 1 or Wheelers Single AAL since they are the only big changes I've done. Everyone reports good things about the Eibach and it's mainly in my seats so I figure it's the rear. I've been there, one shop filled them up to 45 and the ride home was terrible lol.

I might try dropping a few more PSI just to see if I like it anymore. Strangely, when someone rides passenger it feels even worse but probably just because it's more weight.

When I did the AAL, I didn't remove the leaf pack from the shackles, I just slid it above the overload and put the center pin through. I did tighten the u-bolts with while the truck was on the ground though.

 

Awesome thank you, I'm thinking about the Dobinsons LR59-110-R since I only have bed bars. I was going to go with a RTT but decided to go with a GFC platform camper but that will probably be wayyyy into the future so I figure when I have the money for that I can upgrade if needed or do one of Dobinsons AALs.

 

So update, I went with the Icon RXT Leaf Pack on the 1st option (as shipped). It rides like a dream now, and most of the "rough feeling" I had is gone and I love the way it rides. The only issue now is that for some reason while driving I will occasionally get a "bucking" or bouncing up and down feeling. I made sure to retorque everything again since I've driven about 100 miles since the install but it didn't seem to go away. I don't know what the feeling could be, possibly a tire out of balance since I occasionally felt it with the old leaf springs but it wasn't nearly as bouncy. I'm just to sure where to even try to troubleshoot.

 

Sounds like we have a similar experience. I did the AAL from Toytec with the Toytec Aluma 2.0 and it was harsh all the way around. As I’ve learned that the front are 700lb/rate. The AAL was super harsh with no weight. I changed the leaf pack out and it helps. My leafs looked identical to yours before removing. I’ve played with tire pressure and I have E rated tires, so add some more harshness. I found my tires were feathering and wearing weird at 29. I am about to change my springs out to 600lb rate in the front too. The phrase I read and makes more sense now, “buy once, cry once”. Haha. Learning from my lack of knowledge before buying and what was available during covid. I would bet getting a new leaf pack will help what you are feeling in the rear as the AAL makes it feel like it is fully rigid, at least on mine.

No worries haha. Yeah I'm thinking about changing the front as a last resort if I can't figure out this bouncing issue, but so far it rides so much better with the new leaf pack bouncing aside. I have the Eibach Pro Truck Lift Stage 1 with the front coilovers and rear pro truck shocks which are 742lb spring rate.

 

I would bet its the front springs. As for the rear bouncing, might want to look at some hammer hangers. The testimonials about them are all great to take care of that rear hop as the stock hangers are flimsy and flex on bumps. I cannot vouch for them yet but am excited to get mine on soon.

 

What setting/clip are your front Eibach’s on currently? 1st or 2nd?

Ok. You shouldn’t have any bounciness then. Mine rides great. I have the same setup as you, but I used a 1.5” block in the rear because I don’t tow or haul heavy and didn’t want to mess with the rear factory ride with add-a-leafs and aftermarket packs.

 

That's what I've heard from pretty much everyone. I mean I thought they were super stiff but it turned out to just be the AAL, because once I got the Icon leaf springs it rides great over everything for the occasional bounciness. Must just be something installed wrong or something, I'm really not sure but hopefully I can figure out what it is but if not I'm sure I will get used to it

 

Post some pics of your new leaf pack installation and your front Eibach’s. I recall a few people not having the front coils seated correctly and even a few that had the lower coil support upside down. Maybe me or someone else can spot an issue for you.

I’m pretty sure my buddy, @71tattooguy has that same leaf pack. Maybe he can chime in with his experiences with it. Don’t get discouraged, you have a good setup. Something just needs tweaked. Don’t settle until you love it.

 

Went out and got some pictures. Funny enough after triple checking and 100 ish miles of breaking them in.. The front leaf spring bolt on the passenger side was loose. Idk if that is what the cause is, but I bet it had something to do with it. I will update once I can take a drive after work. For now here's the pictures in case anybody notices anything else.

Also, I bought the front coilovers pre-assembled from Wheelers, one was listed drivers side but I figured that out after I had already put the drivers side one, I figured it really didn't matter as they are the exact same.

 

Leafs will usually sag a tiny amount over time. Excessive loading, and bad shocks will accelerate the issue.

 

Looks good from pics. AAL Get tired after a while. IMO I recommend a full leaf pack. I’m running icon rxt on option#2. What’s nice about this leaf pack you can use it in three configurations depending on weight.

So just an update after tightening the leaf spring bolt, the bouncing is still there. After paying some attention to the bed I can see it shaking in the side mirrors whenever I’m getting the bumping up and down feeling. Sometimes it’s a lot worse and sometimes I don’t feel it. Might try adding some sand bags to see if It changes anything.

 

I don’t think this will play a part in your bouncing issue, but check the bed bolts. It’s a T55 torx socket. Many have been loose and if your bed is shaking that could be why.
