2013 V6, 4doors, 4x4 Tacoma. Got rear ended last night. Driver side rear bumper smashed in, broken tail lights, tailgate damages…, and possibly frame damages.

My question is…, should I take it to a my local Toyota Dealership or a small shop to inspect and repair? This is my first ever accident in the past 30 yrs of driving so forgive me if this is a dumb question. I’m quite clueless about it. Thanks.

You call your insurance and they will guide you through the process. They will do all the leg work for you.

You can take it to any shop and get it inspected for safety and roadworthiness. If they deem it unsafe you are entitled to a rental, but it varies.

Also visit a doctor if you feel sore at all, and document it.

Sorry to hear about your truck!

Reminds me to put my hitch receiver back in my truck. Does a number on somebodys grill if they're texting while driving and hit you.
Which teenagers are notorious for doing while driving, which sounds like maybe your case. Also just might prevent some of the damage to your rear end.
Plus what bishop said...neck and back injuries don't show immediately sometimes. Ask me how I know.

The very reason I got a steel bumper and trailer hitch ball.

Looks like they'll total it @Kevinztaco. I'm surprised it took this long.

You can buy it back with a branded title and have it repaired or take the money and find another vehicle to purchase.

If you don’t mind me asking how many miles and what did the insurance company give you? I have a similar truck so just wondering.

No, she was sitting in my driveway until June 13, 2022 because the local Yoda dealership couldn't get me in sooner.

81k miles. I have taken good care of this mall crawler princess with all the underbody coating, fullsynthetic oil, trans oil, suspension, and other cosmetic$ with no intention of ditching her until she falls apart at her age of 20 +.., 30 yrs.

Bro, I'd love to buy her back with all the pampering I've given to my mall crawler princess over the years since the day I drove her from the stealership.

Look into the option of buying it back and fixing it since it sounds like a well cared vehicle with such low miles and 4WD.

Looks like you beat me to it. Call the insurance and inquire about this option.

Thanks, Wattapunk! I'd love to walk around her again knowing how well I've taken of her. LOL Seriously.

Thanks, Uluru. I don't care for they low ball $$ offered by the insurance company. It doesn't get me a nice truck as my mall crawler princess no matter how much they offered me at the end. I test drove some of the newer tacos and they are not as responsive those 4.0 princess.
