So this morning I had a woman stop on my bumper while stopped at a traffic light. She said she was having a bad couple days and couldn't see through her tears while reaching down for a cleanex and used me for her brakes. My bumper on the right side took the hit, it also moved my box closer to the cab on that side . My concern is the possibility of a tweaked frame, body shop thinks not. Does anyone buy this? The truck that hit me was 2012 Chevy envoy.

Well the beds composite mounted to a steel frame, it doesn’t look like the tailgate or bed is damaged so the impact was bumper to frame. Could have tweaked one side causing the box to shift slightly. Needs to be put on a frame machine.

Have you looked underneath? Look at where the hitch bolts to the frame rails. You should be able to see if there has been damage to the frame by following the rail looking for bends or mash that look more pronounced than the other side in comparison.

Can’t really see the angle of your rear bumper, but similar thing happened to me 3 weeks ago, and insurance totaled my truck.

The bumper is attached to the end of the frame and as the bumper bends down, so does the frame.

    Tacoma frame design sucks :crapstorm:

Weak as crap. They put a stout beefy hitch on a non boxed, c-channel frame rail that does not have a section replacement procedure from factory and we lose a truck that other brands could be fixed with a rear frame section.

No not till you suggest it, but here are some more pictures so the mount for the hitch moved about a 1/4" and side to side center hole below box one side you can drop a bolt down. The damaged side there is a bolt a 3/16" difference.

Mine does too but not as bad. The bottom of the box gasket touches and slightly curled over the top has a slight gap.

It’s part of Toyotas plan to make sure the trucks get written off before the warranty frame replacement due to rust.

Yes sir they had to go back and meet mid 80's ford standards where your frame flexes before you weak ass leaf springs do, total crap, but I still will drive them even though nothing like the older trucks.

Request the shop and insurance agree to check frame per Toyota's collision repair specs.

Next question the person has progressive and I didn't get to visit with flo or the gecko :( . But are they OK to deal with. I just want a fare deal in the end. But not get the deal in the end if you know what I mean

It's an option. I've already discussed it with my agent. But he said try this first. He brokers several and progressive is one he handles but I'm with secura and am insured to the max with a million wrap around. Theses guys ha my truck, car and home for a little over 2.4 thousand a year. My only concern is she doesn't have our state minimum insurance 0r 25/50000. Then I will be filing my company if it's totaled . I'm insured to almost 1.5 million. And I would not be with out it now days

I was in the trade for 24 yrs. You may need to do your own work as far as getting some legit quotes. The latest thing is the take a pic bullshit. Don't let them push you around. There are a few things you can do. Do some cross measurements, pick a hole ? Or somth ing by the back of a-arm area and go to a hole /cab mount at back of cab. Then go tothe front ,say front edge of axle housing (not the best but kinda level with the front part of rails). If the bed was pulled off you could also check for squarness too. I'm going to take a guess that your frame may have a slight sway to it behind the cab ,and or the one rail be torqued up from cab to bumper mount.

You don’t need to get a bunch of quotes. Take it to a body shop with a good rep and get it fixed. If you screw around with it, that could become a problem.
My truck had a similar thing happen when it was 2 weeks old. I took it to an excellent shop and ran the claim through my own insurance. They did an excellent job with all Toyota parts and recalibrated my parking sensors. They did a thorough repair.

I paid my deductible to the body shop, my insurance paid the balance. They collected all the money through the insurance company of the other driver including my deductible ( which was refunded). Doing it this way gave me control over the process and outcome with out dealing with any BS or delays from the other person’s coverage. I had a real nice rental car too.

I dropped my truck off about two hours after the incident. Don’t screw around with it, that will begin to look suspicious.

Do not go through your insurance. She hit you from behind. She is 100% wrong. Have her insurance deal with the repair at the shop you pick. They will have to give you a rental car. Anytime you go through you own company you take a ding on your insurance record. Thank god your not hurt and the tacos not totaled. Let her financially make you whole again.
