It took me way to long to figure out what you meant by SB cranks lol. If it wasn’t for super boost I’d be on a Pivot instead of the SJ Evo right now.

 

Is replacing your own spoke as simple as it seems, or is it better to just take the rim to the bike shop? They aren't expensive when its all done and said to replace, but apparently my spokes are rock magnets. Tried to ride through a rock garden and a sharp edge broke a spoke - the spoke nipple is now inside my rim well and sounds like a marble in a tin can when riding.

Need to figure out the best way to get my spoke lengths for replacements, but again I can drop it off at the shop and have them fix as well.

 

It's not hard at all, just more trouble to find the right length and get the tension set properly. I'd personally just have a shop do it, maybe true it up if needed.

 

Its almost more entertaining to leave as SB rather than spelling out 'super.' With the abbreviation it still could be interpreted as stupid boost...which it is.

Its definitely annoying to have another standard. But honestly having an 'extra' rear wheel and set of cranks really isn't that extreme and equips you to build/run just about any frame out there. That is assuming you aren't trying to bounce around between 29-27.5 frequently.

 

yea if you haven't done it before it can be tricky. depending on the wheel and spoke, you would have to take the cassette off or the brake rotors if you have disc brakes.

really nice if this is something you plan on doing often.

then if you're tubeless you may be able to get away using the nipple in the rim already. if not you need to pull the tape and align the nipple with the spoke.

then get it all tensioned and make sure the rim is still true. you can give the spokes a good squeeze and say "yep that'll work" or you can use an actual spoke tension meter, but they aren't the cheapest

personally i would probably buy a new wheel then take 2-3 weeks, maybe a month or two, replacing the single spoke on the broken wheel

 

Thanks for the info! I have another set of wheels I am going to use while I figure this out. Such a pain in the ass because I will have to pull the rim tape, fish out the nipple, reset and screw in with a new spoke, then retape. Had this done a few weeks ago when I broke a spoke - enjoying riding some of the more chunky trails and figure it's time to get good at this, foresee it happening more in the future.

With it being only one spoke out of the 32 (had the wheels trued up when I broke the spoke last time), going to go with the hand squeeze method and try to best match all the other spoke tensions. 31/32 properly tensioned spokes is still a passing grade.

Is that the new lightweight full face? I held one the other day and it was badass. Hardly heavier than a half shell

 

it's a different color to the one I currently have, no idea if it's new. Proframes have been out over a year I think. I enjoy wearing it in summer as well as winter.

 

They also had another one of POC's outgoing models. From the size chart I've saw for POC, if you run a Large Fox or TLD the XL/XXL should work.

This helmet has me curious on how well the radar detection works. I understand the NFC chip, but the radar ordeal sounds interesting for those that venture off in state parks or national forests.

I bought exactly this helmet, from this website, just a few weeks ago. I'm usually a medium (Giro/TLD) and the M/L fits me really well. I'm highly skeptical that Recco or NFC would help at all if I'm in a bad situation, but who knows!

 

It literally won't. RECCO is so underutilized its practically non-existent. As a prior SAR team dude, having a visible color (orange) will go way farther in finding you than Recco will. But if its a feature on an already great helmet, even better.

 

And for that reason, my helmet is fluorescent yellow. I ride in some areas that you can hunt so I make sure I'm loud and can be seen from a long ways off!

 

My POC Kortal in orange will melt your retinas at 100 paces and I still had a dude almost run into me last week.

 

LOL, I have fluorescent riding shirts so if I have a bad off into the weeds someone is more likely to find me. My wife thought I was really into chartreuse. It's a cool name for a color (or range of bright colors between yellow and green), but I had to tell her to stop buying me shit in that color, I don't need everything chartreuse.
