I had a shock fail after 5 months of purchase. Had to purchase a new one before I can send this one back in. Kind of a pain. I while ago it failed again. Of course its out of warranty. I let it go to long without repair because I was looking for a replacement suspension. Something more durable and that required less maintenance. I went with the OME 2-3 lift kit with the OME 9000 and EL112R Heavy Dakar Leaf Pack, put on the dif drop, and upper control arms. I have to say I'm stoked at the extra clearance I'm getting...and I dont notice a difference in the ride at all. I'll report back how it holds up.

The icon system may work for some, but not for me. Who wants to rebuild a shock every 3,000-5,000 miles? Not me! Even my stock shocks lasted well over 30,000 miles. My installer said he replaces these all the time. soooooo...who wants to purchase this kit from me...it comes with the springs:)

Ya thats why i didn't go with the icons, they have a 40k rebuild cycle, I would be rebuilding them like once a year. How many miles were on them when the first one failed?

God the rebuild schedule on so many of these suspensions sounds absolutely terrible to me. Who wants to be messing with this shit all the time? Unless you’re in the small minority who are off-roading every single week, I just don’t understand the point.

Not trying to be a butthead but you might want to peep out the buy / sell / trades rules and modify your post before the mods do.

Also: Sorry about your Icons. I was originally looking at them and was told to avoid for this reason. For my use I needed something that could go long-haul with little fuss and only occasional "real" use. I went with Ironman 4x4 FCP.

Problem is my truck is my dd, so I would need a second set of suspension parts or be down a vehicle for however long the rebuild takes, neither one of those is very attractive.

If my truck wasn't my dd, or i drove way less miles I wouldn't have a problem with it.

No surprise there with Icon, probably the worst shock company on the planet. It's even more of a joke what people pay for them, they aren't even a premium brand.

I debated Elka, Icon etc but started to read more into rebuild schedules required on them and that was a huge turn off. I don't off road hardcore enough to justify the need for those types of suspension anyway.
I ended up ordering OME heavy duty kit which I should have by next week.

Ya, why bother changing the oil in the engine either.....

Non-rebuildable shocks typically need replaced every 50k miles but most people dont bother because they think they are "fine." It only takes a couple hours to remove and rebuild a shock and it's not expensive.

When I rebuilt my kings after 30k of heavy offroading, the oil was black but the seals and internals were flawless, so you could probably get away with more but depends.

I'm honestly okay with replacing my 6112s every 50k miles as apposed to spending the money for Kings and then rebuilding every 30k. For what I use the truck for its perfect, and I'm not sure that this is my "forever truck" either.

The only thing Icon that I support is the rxt leaf pack. I am curious about the Deavers, but I'm super happy with the Icon leafs

I already have barely enough free time for OC as its is. As far as the non rebuildable shocks go a can't speak to the average but I just had mine off with 80k, no leaks and still had the gas charge. Mileage may vary i guess.

Exactly my point that people think they are "fine."

    Agreed.

A minor benefit is you can easily sell a rebuilt shock for close to sale price as opposed to a non-rebuildable. I actually got all my money back from my old set of kings.

I don't get it. What wrong with it if its still charged and hasn't leaked oil?

The oil still breaks down, they encounter shock fade sooner and lose dampening/performance. Because this process occurs over a few years, most people dont even notice.
