Remote starter

My 2017 Tacoma trd sport did not come with remote start… from what I’ve seen installing one is just plug and play. However I don’t know which remote starter kit to get, any suggestions?

Yup, what he said. I’ve had that one for 2 or 3 years now with no issues. Cellular is either $30 or $40 a year, but allows you to start, lock/unlock, and see it on the map from the gps.

N2Design. I have been using it for 4 years, zero issues, 20 min. install. I don't have the phone app. as I don't need it.

 

I went with N2Designs as well but rather than the cellular option I went with LRR-Long Range Remotes. No subscription and it reaches half a mile or better.

 

I have the N2design with the cell module. The range of the stock fob sucks so the cell module was a must have. FYI the engine will shut off when you open the door if you have push to start.

 

Get a 2 way long range starter. When I play hockey in the winter, I can start it up from the dressing room, and come out to a nice warm Taco!

 

20 minute install? What are the steps? What do you have to remove to do the install?

1 bolt, 4 screws and tugging on a few panels.

ETA: 1,000,026 post since 7/22/14, that means you averaged 14.31 post per hour.

 

Any of these remote start solutions keep the engine running after you open your door? The factory one kills the engine and you have to restart it. So, so stupid. This is my third vehicle with remote start and the first one that does this...

 

Yes, thats a Toyota thing! Sucks I know, been tried and never hacked as of yet.

 

Specific to the factory system though? I’d imagine an aftermarket would not do this? Or..?

 

This guy claims his doesn't shut off. But just about everyone else says it does.

 

This is Toyota specific, whether OEM or aftermarket your truck will shut off when any door is open.

 

I can’t believe someone hasn’t figured out a work around to this yet.

 

Yeah the only problem here is Jimmy doesn't design the starter he sells them.

Well alrighty then. I just ordered the Push-to-Start kit for my 2017. Sale price $199 plus free shipping with code N2FREESHIP. I probably won't install until September when the weather cools, but I don't know if the sale goes on until then so I went ahead and ordered it now.
