So they let the cement set up then use the burlap.

The mix the city uses cures in a few hours then it's ready to be walk on.

Yes, when I did bridge work for summer pours, they would pour starting at 1 or 2 am to be be done by 5 or 6, finish it, then one the finish was set just enough, lay the burlap on and use sprinklers to keep the burlap wet the whole day. This helps keep the concrete a few degrees cooler via evaporation of the burlap similar to how your body sweats to keep cool.

Keeping it cool slows down the curing process. If the chemical reactions happen too fast, it’s called flash curing, and it won’t reach it’s designed strength.

They’ll also do stuff like use ice instead of water in the mix to lower the starting temp. In the winter you have the opposite where the water in the mix can freeze before the chemical reaction happens, and won’t cure or won’t reach design strength. So you have to heat the pour area before and after.

When the city contracted a bridge to be built the contractor had a deadline to meet. Will the cement had to be poured in the winter they added some kind of anti freeze. I don't know if the used heat since they were under water. They used some kind of tube in a tube. First tube was added then the water was pumped out then the second was added in the first tube. I don't know all the details but it sounded interesting.

I heard the cement company uses ice when it's above 100+ degrees. When they poured mine, the contractor used extra water to slow the curing time. The best thing of working under a roof is we can drape something off the roof for shade.

The shiny spots I was seeing I'm guessing was, this is how the water dried on the surface. I ask the contractor, His replied was it's normal.

Yes, water is great and used for cooling, and adding water improves the workability while pouring. Adding too much water while its still "wet" can change water to cement ratio of the mix and then it won't reach design strength. So its really about adding just enough for workability to place it, then letting it set up (with a little water to help finishing), then just enough to cool via evaporation effect.

Again this is a much bigger deal when using concrete for structures like buildings and bridges. A pad even for a home is not going to make a big difference one way or the other.

    CALLING ALL DIY PLUMBERS!
I had some plumbing done, and unfortunately they had to break alot of tile due to the previous patch job being crap. Had to get a tile guy last minute, and this is what he did. Plumbers are supposed to be back to add Moen Trim pieces, but my wife can wait, and after watching youtube, it should be pretty simple. Only thing is, it seems that the tile guy didnt leave much room for installation? Im at work right now, but here is a photo. Any tips, or ideas. Its a simple Moen single handle replacement. Please excuse the horrendous tub/tile work. We are currently remodeling this old home little by little.

Thats what i saw, but looking at this photo, i dont see where those screw holes are. Im thinking the tile guy didnt leave enough room? Or maybe i just saw so many videos with a lot more space that this and im comparing.

You might not know if you have enough space or not until you can hold the escutcheon up to the piping and see for yourself. The wide variety of escutcheons and their mounting needs kind of doesn't let us give you any advice from our armchairs.

Did the plumber use the correct mixing valves for your handle?

This, id say its tight fit, screws would be on either side of handle. But there are tons different styles. Might be ok, you'll have to wait to get home.:fingerscrossed:

The owner of the company was laying the blocks. He was picky on how much water to cement ratio. It took a full 24 hrs to start seeing the wet cement start to turn white. The owner is anal on everything had to be squared, level, but he not a neat freak. Can't win them all. I rather have a well built porch than a clean area that I can clean up myself after.

Tomorrow is a 90's degrees day. I'll soon find out how he'll deal with the heat.

You'll want a little extra room anyway in case you need to get back in there and replace the faucet cartridge. If you hold the face plate up you'll get an idea of how big you can go on the hole of course depending on how much space you need too.

Yup! This is my first experience with plumbing, so I thought this tile guy knew what he was doing. They left s plastic cap on that has the same size hole you posted, not sure why he took it off and did this. He's coming in s bit to fix it. Thanks guys. Next time, I'll attempt to do myself. Atleast the tile work.
