While I'm at it, should I do more?

Good afternoon all!

I'm about to do some needed maintenance on my 03 4x4. Here's what's on the list:

1. New rotors and pads up front
2. New shoes and drums out back (both front and rear are slightly warped)
3. Replacing valve cover gaskets and plugs (both sides are seeping)
4. Replacing carrier bearing
5. Full fluids flush and replacement

Anything that I might as well replace?

This is a second vehicle for us, sees driving duty about 3x week for 50 miles or less. Will get some fun off-road action about twice a year.

While your doing a brake overhaul you might think of also doing the rubber brake hoses.

always remove your fill plugs before draining anything.

 

While you have your valve cover off you should at least check the valve clearances. I know they like to go out of alignment, wouldn't hurt to check.

 

What's the mileage?

Something simple I'd add is greasing every moving part. Tailgate mechanisms, door latches, hinges, hood latch etc.

 

For not much more than the price of rotors and brake pads, you could buy the Powerstop tundra brake upgrade and hardline conversion. I just made this decision as like you, my rotors were warped (pretty common on these trucks, from my research)

I also just did my valve covers for the same reason - and when I did the work, I just have upset leak the juju in the old vacuum hoses, because I had a vacuum leak after I got it all buttoned up. New silicone hoses did the trick. I also replaced the pcv valve, grommet, and hose (OEM, because the silicone will not tolerate the oil/fuel contact for long)

 

I second this. Just did mine a few weeks ago. Found valves as much as .oo5 out of spec, adjustment made a 36 psi difference in cylinder compression.

When you did the hoses, did you piece it together or get a kit?

I'm a few thousand away from 200k. I like this advice and I'll do this myself too.

I bought the hard line kit from adventure taco, which you will find in the write up, and followed his instructions. He is a member here, can't recall his handle, maybe r someone will chime in.

U-Joints since you're doing carrier bearing.

 

Grease the zerks on the driveshaft, will be easier with the driveshaft hanging.

 

Transmission mount.
Alternator brushes and possibly check the bearings in there as well.
Diff fluid.
Don't know if you have a MT or AT, but if the latter change out the AT filter.
Radiator, hoses & all belts.
Flush power steering fluid & clean the reservoir screen.
