I've always been more of a Ford full size truck guy, but I'd have to say the Silverado 1500 with 3.0L diesel. My buddy has one and gets no shit 30+ mpg on the highway. Incredible road tripper!

Honestly, if I sold my Tacoma or if it got totaled, I'd probably buy a Mitsubishi Delica L300 rather than another truck...

A good kind of pain or a bad kind of pain? I had the honor of driving a 1996 Delica L300 this past February and I can tell you from driving that particular one that I would not buy one with a diesel engine, but I loved it otherwise! 2.4L gas 4-cylinder is the best way to go...

My mechanic had a 1982 FJ42 from Colombia in his shop last week! It was a gasser though...

If I sold the taco, I'd get a gladiator. The midsize truck is just too good in the dirt for wheeling/camping/shuttling bikes etc.

If I was too keep the taco and add another pickup to the fleet, it would either be a new Tundra CMLB TRD sport or a Ram 2500 with a cummins. But id rather just keep the taco and not buy another pickup for a while

Mostly electrical shit that nobody cares about.
If I *had to* sell the Tacoma and the replacement *had to be* a full size truck, I'd go with a F-150 but probably a Super Cab.

    TBH?

If I got rid of the Taco I'd just live with the R4P. Won't wheel as hard and won't have any of the toys I've installed, but it's good for all the in town stuff, and I could get a flatbed trailer for dump runs and the like.

I'm in the same boat as the OP. Eyeing an F150 but mainly the prices holding me back, not to mention the issues. Probably get a CPO S crew 3.5, though I drove a new PB Hybrid and the power of that is awesome. Would hate and regret parting with the Taco. Its an Old friend now I bought new and have 103k on it. Just maint and the wheel bearings recently but you cant beat these things for reliability. Same for my 1st gen (99 xcab 3.4 MT 4x4) Still miss that rig.

Absolutely agree with both. Full size trucks are way too big to go many of the places I like to go. The size would detract from the experience.

And if I were choosing now I'd get a Gladiator Rubicon. I love my Tacoma but I'm now experienced enough off road to find the limitations of a moderately built Taco(you know, the pretty typical good quality 3" lift, 33s, and armor). Yeah you can go more extreme with a Taco but what's the point? Road manners and reliability are why people buy IFS Tacomas over Jeeps and if you build a rock crawler out of a Taco you've thrown both those things out the window. You can get 37s and miles of flex out of the Jeep with basic bolt ons and limited impact. Plus as a manual die hard I'd kill for that 4:1 transfer case in the rocks.

Plus it's just more fun. If you don't think a pickup that can go doorless and topless looks like a blast you're either lying or don't have a soul.

If I went bigger I'd skip half tons all together. If I'm buying a truck that can't fit down a real trail then I better be able to put a big, comfy Four Wheel Camper on it that I could literally live out of for as long as I want at a time(that remote work life) and be able to tow whatever off road toys I like that can go on the trails without it breaking a sweat. Personally right now I'd get a Tremor, with a Ram 2500 Cummins as a close second and a GM a distant, distant third.

If I sold Taco Blue what would I do? Where would I go? Who would know? If is a big word and and often over looked. I remember when I first saw her, one look and I was took. So, if I sold Taco Blue what would I do. Taco World, I would be Blue.
