Thanks these trucks do a good job of absorbing a lot of the impact but to the determent to the frame. I do want to get an opinion on thats because it was my retirement gift to my wife and I. I have not been in an at fault accident in 40 plus yrs. A partial fault 6 yrs ago. When I avoided T-boning some shit for brains who pulled out in front of me while lulled into thinking the road conditions were better then they were while running in 4hi when it was snowing. In Minnesota hiway 34 has the most inbread drivers available in this region. I have come up on drivers during 30mph in a 55. drivers driving at me on shoulders on my side of the road . It's an adventure in survival.

Like said above, go through your insurance to get it repaired. Let your insurance company fight it out with the other insurance company, that’s part of there job.

Call your insurance and follow their guidance. My advise, or you could listen to me, I have drank about 16 beer tonight not counting the happy hour. I know that because I got the 18 pack and this is the second to last one. Amazing how you can count when the score gets close.

So I had to go through my insurance because the other driver was uninsured. Thank goodness I had uninsured motorist.

My insurance was awesome. I took my truck to a Toyota dealer a day later ( always always go to the dealer’s collision center, not a “preferred body shop”), my insurance did their investigation and got back to me within 2 days, they direct deposited my payment within 5 days of my accident, even before they picked up my truck or signed over my title, and I never went more than 48 hours without the adjuster or settlement agent in touch with me throughout the entire process keeping me in the loop of what was going on. Also, whenever I called, I always got them on the phone, never put on hold, and never having to leave a voicemail.

I know people have nightmares with auto insurance claims (as if the accident isn’t bad enough emotionally) so this was entirely different than what I kept reading. Start with your insurance and let them guide you!!

This site is always good for some good info and a ton of good laughs. YOU pay YOUR insurance company to cover YOU. Make the claim with them. Let them fix it. Let them recover anything that they can for them. Why would you spend hours dealing with the other persons insurance that may or may not accept responsibility.

I did he suggested going through the other person’s first, if they are under insured or the claim is going south then they will step in. They are brokers and sell progressive. Sounds like after talking with the Toyota body shop and the adjuster I'm taking it there because they will set a time for him to inspect it with box and bumper off then on a computerized rack with stress points marked if out of Toyota's spec, them go from there. Was told by the preferred shop and Toyota shop they only go into it with everything laid out with no surprises to me or them.

What insurance company do you have?

Typically in any accident, you let the insurance companies involved fight it out and determine fault. By you doing the leg work going to the other driver’s insurance, it’s like you’re determining fault and no insurance company is gonna make that easy, cause they don’t want to pay out.

Do you trust your insurance company more or an unknown insurance company?

I’d recommend doing everything through your insurance company, get your truck fixed through them, get rental through them, and once both insurance companies determine fault, your insurance company will go after their insurance company to get reimbursed what they paid you. (it should be a slam dunk since you were rear ended) You shouldn’t have to fight the other person’s insurance company or even talk to them except to tell them your side of the story.

It’s better to go through your own insurance from my perspective. Unless your insurance is cut rate, they are just going to pay for it and collect from the other one via subrogation. They aren’t real concerned about the cost since they will pass those costs on. When you deal with the other person’s insurance, they have every incentive to delay, go cheap, and put you in a 1985 Yugo for a rental. When you go through your own carrier, you have far more control and the body shop gets no hassles about the extent of the work, or authorizations.

Going through your own insurance is not an admittance of any degree of fault, nor does it create a “ding” on your record. The only thing which “dings” your record is an act of negligence or willful stupidity on your part which results in a loss, or of course, a moving violation.

I’ve handled several collisions this way and it has always worked out the best for me and I’ve walked away “ding free”. The important part is to handle it first, and take control of the process. The more you screw around, or give the other person’s carrier more say, or time to act, the less likely you are to get the outcome you want. The other carrier isn’t there to do you any favors, their job is to minimize their losses which is accomplished by cutting costs on repairs.

I have Secura, the agent I have is a broker who has several companies. It was recommended by him since (she) the other driver admitted to fault because she was looking down at the floor and reaching for a cleanx to wipe the tears from her eyes that it would be cleaner this way for my rating on being accident free. She assumed fault to me and the officer at the seen (not recommended due to what you said) I may need to hit mine for some chiropractic treatment because my insurance covers medical due to this states insurance laws but it doesn't affect accident free rating. Years ago I was told by another insurance company in a different town I lived in was never admit to fault or anything at the sight of the accident so they do the sorting. The woman was sighted. It will be fairly cut and dried unless she carries the state minimum if it is totaled. At the crash sight she gave up her whole life history, single mom, 4 kids, troubles with a teen who stole her other car and wrecked it the day before.other troubles, our state had a 4000 minimum damage reportable accident. The cop just wanted an exchange of driver info but due to the shit I was told I got a incendient report and if the damage is over that the insurance companies have to report it to the state. I wasn't told what she was sighted for but she got a ticket . Could be for following to close, failure to stop or possibly the worst reckless driving. Not my problem.

A little advice to anyone given to me through life and experiences in a case like this ... this is life not social media keep your mouth shut at the scene of the accident. I was initially pissed but resisted yelling and screaming at her, I just ask if she had f-n brakes. Then I got her life shit and determined to get the police involved. Now I'll let it play out based on what her adjuster says. She still hasn't returned any calls or reported it to them as I did to mine at the scene. Again poor decisions make poor out comes in life. Just like I pay annually to save on processing sir charges, $10 for every billing potential 120 savings a year. It does have a downside though on renewal they are attached to the policy and if you forget to put it in the car the digital is nice to have as a backup. I had an expired paper and a digital current backup so it was verified same policy # he kept my paper copy and took her phone. Now he had (cop) her phone to look at call and text history. Remember that also. While waiting for the police I got a car max offer of 38000. for it and a retail value of 40457. So inorder of contact . Driver, police, insurance company, carmax and family after I did my personal inventory for injuries.

Honestly it doesn’t matter who admit fault at the scene since someone can always say they were forced to say it. It’s really up to the insurance companies to determine fault.

Also, you should go directly to the insurance company not a broker to seek guidance. Brokers are brokers, not the actual company.
