I don't see Malkin being signed. If he is, it will likely be a year or two contract, which I don't think he will take.

Campbell wants Allstar money and I'm guessing Ken Holland signs him for 7 X 7 tomorrow. The Oilers are a weird duck, constantly signing ex-Leafs for crazy money but whatever. We'll miss him and hopefully he can live up to the money.

$6.1/ year for Malkin to. The Pens must love signing players past their prime.

I have no problem with the Pens signings so far. We got Rust, Rakell, Letang and Geno all in the 5-6m range. I'll take that all day. There are so many mediocre (at best) players that make that kind for money, so even an aging Letang and Malkin is better than most players in that range. Almost the whole team is guys on budget friendly deals when you factor in Jake G, our goalies etc. I am not going to complain at all. People keep saying "come back with the same team and continue to exit 1st round" but this team was different last year, especially after adding Rakell. If we had either of our 2 starting goalies or Sid healthy, I don't see us losing to NYR. So I just don't buy into that ideology.

I like Murray to the Leafs. I haven't given up on him. He's a good goalie. On a god team, if he gets his confidence again, he is better than Campbell in my opinion.

In my very unprofessional opinion the pens aren't a cup contender anymore. The core is still good but nowhere close to what they were. With the salary cap it doesn't make sense to me to throw money just to keep those 3 together. All it's doing is delaying a complete rebuild for 4 or 5 years.

This probably sounds like a cliche/snarky response but I assure you that it is not: But if they don't sign those guys then what would your plan be to replace them? The rumored names that I heard as a replacement for Geno would be Strome or Trocheck and for Letang I heard Klingberg. So factoring in what we signed our guys for, I would like to hear a better plan.

If I had a good plan for who to sign and who not to sign I'd have a different career. There are a lot of good players hitting the market today so I'm sure they could have found others. But they didn't and now we'll see how it pans out for them. As someone who is watching a painful rebuild for the last 5 years I wouldn't be happy with the core all being on the tail end of their careers at the same time.

Well everyone on this board is not a career GM, it's just general talking about hockey. My point is, a lot of people are complaining about the 3 core guys staying on the team but they just signed 58 and 71 for below market value, while keeping Rakell, Rust and Desmith. Last year, 99% of fans, media etc would've said that was not possible. I probably wouldn't have wanted to give Letang or Geno 8-9Mil, which they likely would've got somewhere in free agency. So to bring those guys back for that price is probably better than bringing in any outside player for that same price range. We just won 2 Cups not long ago so there are going to be ups and downs. But last year's team I think was really good when they were on. And if not for injury to both goalies and Sid, I don't see how we lose to NYR, who is an awesome team in their own right. We outplayed them for the most part.

Just imagine Toronto who has 3 guys making significantly more money than Sid, and also Nylander who is up there. And they have won nothing. Same with Edmonton. Those 2 teams have high dollar, young guys in their prime and have not won. They are on the clock. Pens are playing with house money.

You've made a lot of good points. It is good for the next couple seasons. Hopefully the pens can build their younger players around Crosby, Malkin, and Letang and it won't be as drastic when they all retire within a couple seasons of each other.
Only an hour until the market opens! Hopefully the wings can pick up some talent to go with Lalonde.

I keep seeing on Twitter that they are expected to sign Copp for 5m/yr (4-6 year range)

I saw that to. That would be a step in the right direction for sure. We need a lot of help still but I have confidence Yzerman will get the team where it needs to be.

Trocheck to NYR for 7yr at 5.6mil. So that's pretty similar money to what Geno got. I like Trochek a lot, local product etc. He would've been the ideal replacement for Geno had it not worked out. But I honestly like having Geno more. But good deal for NYR. Heck of a player.

Also Leafs added Samsonov. Not a bad tandem, honestly. I'd split 50/50 and hope Murray regains old form and then run him in playoffs.

Sounds like Keumper is going to the caps. Ottawa seems to be making big plays the last couple days

Ya Ottawa's goalie swap by getting Talbot was interesting. I guess he was upset about Min re-signing MAF, so that sparked the trade. Giroux to Ott is weird. He leaves Philly to Cup chase w/ FL. Doesn't get it and now goes to a rebuilding team. Probably should've just stayed with Flyers, if that is the case lol.

Giroux lives in Ottawa so I'm guessing that was the big draw there for him.
