This where I become a hair splitter. Driving under the influence is breaking the law, street racing is breaking the law, and general careless or reckless driving is breaking the law; I don't think "breaking the law" is the proper way to describe going a few miles over the speed limit...

Anyway, while the Yukon is better than the Pilot in many ways, it does not have the awesome sunshades that the Pilot had, and it also lacks decent-sized cupholders in the backseat. My dad plans on getting limo-style tint on the back windows because it lacks sunshades...

well you an I may differ there buckaroo. A wise man once told me, “don’t break the law while you’re breaking the law” and it’s never let me down. So if you are going to speed, make sure the rest of your truck and record is up to snuff.

I've only gotten one speeding ticket in my life, which also happened to be the first time I ever got pulled over, and it was literally just over six years after I got my license. It was 43 MPH in 25 MPH zone, at almsot midnight, with literally nobody else on the road; I fought it and it was reduced to 5 MPH over. Everything on my truck is up to snuff.

That said, I only encountered one "dickhead cop" in my whole life (back in January 2019), and most of my followers here on TW know this story; I was driving while rather drowsy, zoned out, and treated a red light at a three-way intersection like a stop sign. This situation was unique because I was stopped by a sheriff's deputy rather than a tradition cop. While the sheriff in Bucks County has the power to initiate traffic stops if a violation is witnessed, they have a different union than the numerous police departments in the county and leave the writing of the citation(s) to cops in whatever jurisdiction the violation occurred in (In this case it was the Central Bucks Regional Police, which formed when Doylestown Borough PD and Chalfont PD merged in early 2014). I did not know this until this particularly incident, and when a Chevy Express van with flashing red and blue lights roared up behind me in Doylestown Borough at midnight, I was considering calling 911 because I knew that CBRPD didn't patrol in vans. I decided to take my chances, and he was legit, but I literally had no idea why I'd gotten pulled over.

This girl I knew who also has Aspergers had just gotten kicked out of her apartment, because apparently she and her roommate (the primary leaseholder) had slept with the same guy, and the roomate decided to kick her out purely out of revenge. This girl had shown up at the bar where I was working at the time with all of her worldly possessions and no place to go, and she was facing sleeping on the streets in January. I wasn't about to let that happen, so I called a friend of mine who was known for letting people crash at her house. Of course, my friend said yes, so we loaded all of her stuff into my truck. My primary job at the time was detailing cars at a local dealership, and I was tired from that job; I also had an intoxicated and moderately attractive female in the front seat of my truck, and Pink Floyd on the radio. I was tired, distracted, and zoned out; I was also going straight at an intersection where I was used to turning left.

I did not realize I'd run a red light until I reviewed the dashcam footage upon getting home that night, and until that moment I'd been convinced that the police had been fishing for drunks (remember, I'd just left a bar) and were pissed that I was totally sober.

So, the sheriff's deputy called for a regular cop, which forced me to wait a good 20 minutes. My patience was wearing thin, and it is my opinion that a reasonable LEO would have assessed this situation and listened to my story, then maybe written a ticket for a lesser charge. The sheriff's deputy was initially a jerk, though he came across as very snarky, and I later found he lied to the responding cop and claimed I blatantly blew through a red light and almost hit him. My dashcam footage proves that this is bullshit; I have front and rear cameras, and I did in fact go through a red light, but I treated it as though it were a stop sign or a malfunctioning traffic signal. I looked both ways and waited quite godo amount of time. The sheriff's van doesn't appear in the intersection until I'm about a block away.

Needless to say the cop, who didn't actually witness the violation, tried to intimidate me into just paying the ticket by saying that if I took it to court that he and deputy so-and-so would be there to testify against me. The owner of the bar where I worked is a very good lawyer; I called him the next day. He worked his magic, and I still had to show up in court and pay a fine for some obscure violation, but he made some arrangement with the cop and the deputy where they didn't have to show up. Another cop showed up in their place just as a formality, and I got no points on my license.

I 100% support the police, but I really don't like the Central Bucks Regional Police because in March 2013 they stopped me for taking pictures in public, and then this shit happened in January 2019.

And that goddamn incident with the police in Doylestown almost ten years ago still causes me to get triggered when someone asks to see my ID in an "atypical situation". The only times I don't get triggered is when I get pulled over and the cop asks to see my license, when I'm buying alcohol, and when I'm trying to get into a bar. During the height of the pandemic, I never got carded because beer store cashiers didn't want me to take my mask off; I am now 33, the indoor mask mandates are long gone, and I still don't get carded when buying beer.

I have talked about this numerous times with my therapist, and while I have calmed down a lot, I still see having to hand over my ID in atypical situations as a rather traumatizing scenario and a loss of my freedom. On another note, I always fully cooperate with police because they can arrest you if you don't; I have almost no tolerance for security guards, and on two separate occasions I have actually bolted when I saw them approaching while I was taking pictures of a vehicle in a parking lot. I understand that they have a job to do, but the overwhelming majority of them have turned out to be egotistical douchebags, and I just have very little patience for dealing with them; I also do not feel like being treated like a criminal just because I took pictures of a truck in a public parking lot, and they are NOT cops with the power to arrest me so yeah, I just ran... :luvya:

lots of times traffic infraction is an excuse to stop someone. Typically bad guys arent following the law most the time. So cop pulls them over, smells weed or alcohol then does a bigger search.

I have a rule if travelling out of my area.just follow the posted speed signs, use turn signals, dont tun yellow lights, stop completely at stop signs. You never kniw what cop is waiting to pull you over. Also New york has weird gun laws so i wouldnt travel there with a gun in vehicle. Until reading how to transport a pistol. If you decide to bring one. You definitly dont want pulled over with a gun there. Just follow basic traffic speeds and typically you arent going to get pulled over.

My uncle also said that being in a pickup truck helps because police will assume you are a hardworking blue collar guy returning home from working overtime on a job...

Work for a utility and all your police problems will be gone. I have a gold PBA card, know most of the cops/firefighters in my town and am a registered in the NJ essential employee database. Being in the power industry has its perks.

you're better off leaving the ammo at home and the pistol in the bed with the magazine inside the spare tire, and that might still be illegal! NY gun laws suck

Just a trailer from one side of the property to the other so I can install the new taillights on it in the shade; I also need my truck's wiring harness to test the new lights...

    Success! Sort of, anyway...

Unfortunately the brake light doesn't work, and we think it has something to do with the trailer's wiring harness...

Last I knew (and this is long ago so don't take it as gospel) it went by the state the vehicle is registered in. A coworker had dark tint on her old car but was from Florida and still had those plates. I'm not sure if it would be illegal here at the level she had but that was how it worked back then.

Through pure trial and error (taking the bulb out of one light and putting it in another), I was able to determine that this one on the right front of the trailer is totally shot. This one is getting totally replaced...
