I have a '22 TRD OR with a manual transmission, and maybe this has been happening the entire time, but I am just noticing it now. It has just under 2,000 miles and I feel like when I go into 1st gear, right as I let off the clutch the car shudders a bit. I have tried varying amounts of gas to see if I just wasn't giving enough gas, but that didn't seem to address the issue at all. Two things that I did before this that I doubt have any relation, but I figured I should make known is:

1: I went into 4 wheel drive on my lawn because I was clearing up some brush and I didn't want to tear it up by slipping

    2. I made another thread about this, but I feel like my tolerance between 1st and reverse is extremely close, I know how much I have to push to get into reverse, but it has happened to me a few times that I have been at a light and I went to go and I shifted into reverse instead of 1st. But the other day it happened, and I started in third instead of 1st (and 2nd) because I panicked and couldn't get it into first.

Also, side note: When I got the truck inspected I mentioned to my mechanic that the clutch had a lot of play at the top, he looked at it, and it had about 2" of play at the top where it wasn't doing anything, he adjusted it, and it feels great now. It came from the factory like this, so I'm hoping I don't have a QC issue, and I am just being necrotic about nothing.

Does the shuddering happen with the clutch fully engaged? When I first got mine the engine would stumble really bad on occasion but it cleared up after a few thousand miles.

This could maybe also be the accumulator playing tricks with you. It can mess with your engagement and sometimes it can throw off your rev match.

I've just turned 10000 miles on mine and it drives much better now. The gear locations definitely take a bit of getting used to.

Shuddering while getting going is normally uneven material transfer to the flywheel. A good, fast start or two with smooth clutch engagement will clean up the surface.

Like @JakeJob asked, if it happens after the clutch is fully engaged, it could be the carrier bearing. Some shims with longer bolts is the easy fix to try.

That darn accumulator :bananadead: It's not really when its fully engaged, it shutters a bit right before complete engagement - kind of like I'm not giving it enough gas, but I'm sure I am. Guess I just need to drive it more.

We'll there is that also. Hahaha! Time for that little mod.

Definitely. Some miles will clear it up. Carbon fiber clutches have a long life with the downside of very little feel. So, a little bit of slip to clear up this engagement issue is fine. Don't smoke it, but the slip from a fast takeoff will clear it up.

Maybe I will try to get some clean/fast shifts in case some garbage got in there. I do find that the clutch is pretty clunky. If I am in 1st going pretty slow, and I let off the clutch to quickly its kind of noisy/clunky.

I doubt that there is any foreign material in there. Just like when you can sometimes see an imprint of a brake pad on a rotor, the same thing can happen to flywheels.

1st can be like that, as can coasting over speed bumps. My best theory is that it is the cushioning springs on the friction plate being a bit soft combined with some extra lash in the drive line. The easy fix there is to put some sound insulation, like Noico, on the inside of the heat shield when you do the ADM. It replicates a TSB fix (attached).

I haven't heard of the carrier bearing being an issue. I'll have to look into that.

It is usually when folks install a lift. It can shudder when getting going. With the variability between Tacos, it could be a problem on the stock suspension, but it seems to not be in this case.

Do you know all things taco? Are you the taco wizard because you provided me the documentation to fix my clutch as well, and now the clutch feels great haha

Also, forgive my ignorance, ADM? (annual something maintenance?)

    Definitely not. Haha!

I'm glad that it is sorted out though. Enjoy!

ADM is the Accumulator Delete Mod. :D I figured that you knew that from the mention of it above.
