As others have said you should definitely look it over in person. I actually was on the fence about buying that camper shell off of him a few weeks ago but tabled the idea while I work on some other auto/home priorities. I was thinking the truck and decals look pretty great when I was going through the pics of the camper.

If you end up going through with the trade, just let me know if you hate the camper shell and I'll take it off your hands for free :D

I see your point but we're 8 hours from eachother so inspecting in person is only gonna be possible when we've already made the trip to exchange titles. It'd have to be something really bad for me to turn back without it at that point.

IMO (which you probably shouldn't put too much stock in) it looks great, actually the rust freckles on the hood and decals all remind me a good bit of my truck. As long as he says the engine/maintenance is all straight I think it looks good. If it makes you feel any better: I got my current Tacoma when I saw it posted that day on craigslist at a lot in Austin (4-5h south of me), I called and asked if I could look at it in the morning, and I drove it home from Austin the following afternoon. Clean 95-97 models seem to be hard to come by around here unless they are 5-lug and even then they are getting scarce. I think I must be right between you guys because Houston is about 4h south and the last time I rode up to AR we ended up in Mountain View which was about 5-5.5h drive.

Also if it makes you feel better: when I was looking into the camper he was very upfront about any cracks or damage it had so I don't think he's going to try hiding anything, seems to be honest. Ultimately, it's up to you whether it's worth risking the trip but if you do decide to go I wish you the best of luck!

    95-97 best grills.

Going back to a 5speed! Yassss went from 5speed 1st Gen to auto turd gen 4runner / gx470 and missing the clutch pedal.

truck looks great. 8hrs always is kinda far but worth it if you can spare the time and sure you can make it back:)

if your concerned you can ask for a video of idle and driving.

    good luck

This might be a little off-topic but does anyone know how it works swapping titles? Mine is AR and his is TX. I'm pretty sure we just have to sign them over and swap plates but I'm not 100% sure.

    Plate retention varies by state.

Some belong to the owner (Oregon and several others) whereas others belong to the vehicle (California).

Just look up the state's motor vehicle rules, etc.

Google search will yield the results you're looking for.

On another note, you've chimed in with many questions (as well as pictures) about this truck you intend to trade for.

It seems as if the owner has been very upfront about lot of things.

Have you been completely open and honest about your Land Cruiser?

I thought I saw a Mud thread where you had some engine issues?

It doesn’t have any major issues, just a P0401 code and it leaks some oil. I told him about those and sent pics. Other than that it never overheats, trans shifts smooth and everything is solid overall. Never let me down.

The suspension and bushings are also getting a little tired but it seems like he’s wanna do a lift anyway. I mentioned the suspension is mostly original AFAIK in the ad.

There was one thread I forgot to update where I had a metallic clattering sound at idle: turned out to be an old bolt from the MC I’d dropped while working on the booster lol.

Those Toyota bushings are expensive, specifically those on the radius arms.

I didn't want to lift my LC as I didn't want to deal with new bushings to achieve proper caster.

The cheapest I saw them was from partsouq but it’s till like $500 for a full bushing set. They’re not totally shot on mine or anything but probably should be replaced if you were gonna lift it.

At that price, and the amount of work, not including hardware (not recommended to reuse), one may as well go with a custom 3 link.

Least that's the plan later in the future for my rig.

Would you link the front too? The front travel seems pretty limited by the radius arms

I love the graphics on my 95! I need to repaint the car and get the graphics redone someday though

That's what I was referring to; 3 link the front.

I have a lead on a complete, front axle from an 80 series (with locker). Be the perfect candidate for cutting mounts off, measuring DOM, and making my own links and mounts.

Only thing that I'm genuinely nervous about is messing with the steering setup for clearance reasons.

95-97 definitely has the most “classic” vibe of all the Tacomas IMO

Oh right isn’t the rear technically already linked or something. Idk much about suspensions lol

4 link with panhard bar in the rear.

3 link up front can cause it to feel a bit less stable, but I could look into a sway bar setup to use on road.
