Fitting 35’s with minimal trimming NOW ADDING LONG TRAVEL AND 934 CV’s

I wish I could experience SUA on my truck for a direct comparison of my current setup vs a nice SUA setup with how I wheel. I'm curious, but not $4500 curious.

You cant compare it. Its so much better. Also, it articulates like crazy. 10/10 wouldn't even consider SOA on a truck used how you use it. Its not like I've been using the shit out of the truck yet but I am going to say I have not found one single negative thing about it.

I was always on the line questioning if it was worth it or not. Which is the reason I kept fucking around with SOA only to realize you cant make it better. I am now on the line of SUA everything.

I made a whole lot of changes to the truck so its hard to pick some things out and point a finger at what exactly made things improve. But not with the SUA, it was an enormous change for the better and I can definitely pick it out.

 

Anyone who wants to try the front 2.25” kit or spring under rear, I’d happy to rip it for them at Windrock Labor Day weekend for Appalachian Toyota roundup

i think the biggest thing is up travel, even if your just trail riding, the rear doesn’t push you side to side riding over medium sized rocks, the truck stays planted and level while the the tire tucks up. Iv got 9” of up travel so I can’t imagine what some thing like Harry’s rig feels like. My only concern is weight with me adding a 37” spare and a fuel cell. Not that it can’t handle the weight I just don’t know what ride height will be.

 

Don't get me wrong, I believe everyone that it's good. I just wouldn't be able to justify the almost double price difference for a vehicle that never hits anything at speed. That's why said I'm curious but not that curious. If Betty White is getting anything changed in the rear it'll be poorly set up links to drive 1 mph over some rocks.

(When talking prices I'm comparing what my current setup costs versus a JD SUA setup, $2500 vs $4500)

 

I like using Hockey Pucks. They are nearly the same diameter and are easy to cut with a Sawzall. I cut to the thickness needed, and then cut a notch from the edge to the center so it can slide under the Superbump without having to remove it.

 

@906taco It's great to hear your feedback from the setup, although I had speculated that the SUA kit is vastly superior in regards to travel, articulation, etc.

It'll be interesting to hear how you like the setup after some time and hard usage. I'm just wrapping up my front end and will start to ponder ideas for the rear but I'm hoping to get at least another year out of the current setup.

 

I can't understand how you guys run without fender liners. Especially on this glorious build. I commute on gravel every day and a lot of winter driving. Just put on 35s and had to make liners to keep from perforating my body and rusting it out from the inside.

I took the method from another member. Instead of cutting the whole fender, I cut out the tabs from the original liner mounts and bent them in. Then used some 1/16 ABS, mounted that, cut it 2" long so it protruded from the fender. Then formed with heat. The 2" extension will then be tucked into the flare to seal that section up once I cut to size.
Obviously this method would have to be modified when running glass...



Anyways, I will continue to live vicariously through all you millionaires with sweet rigs.

Did you third gen swap your cab interior, too?

 

Not sure about your math? The kit is $2395 without the shock towers. You could easily build a simple bed cage with your skills and reuse the shocks you have. You could then sell your existing springs and hangers to recoup some costs... I’m guessing you could pull it off for under $2k

 

SUA kit + towers + shocks comes out to about $4500, right? That’s where I was pulling that math from.

I’ve only got lil 12”x2.0 smoothies back there so if I were to go SUA I’d want the full experience and get some proper 14s from you guys. It’s something I’ll consider in the future because I’ll be in AZ in a year but at that point I’ll probably just buy a dirt bike again because dollar for dollar, those things are a blast. I grew up on a Yz250 in socal

3500 once you pedal everything else. Trying to play devils advocate here, because you need it in your life.

 

Haha trust me, it would be sweet. My next priority is better brakes though as my current braking performance is abysmal.

 

Same here. Same here. I’ve been eyeing up the wilwood 6 piston kit pretty hard.

 

This is what I decided on. Meant for a 4Runner but will bolt right up. Can use any off the shelf 4Runner rotor and has the same metric fitting as our current calipers.
