I think because of a recall they had a few years back.

Yeah, I edited to clarify. The Pittsburg stands sold there did have a recall. They also sell Daytona stands which have a safety insert and are more robust in their design. I haven't heard of any issues with Daytona Stands.

Is there a extended height difference between the 3 & 6 ton?

Generally yes, but it depends on the manufacture and model.

HF 3-ton height range is 11.4-16.8": HF 6-ton height range is 15.5-23.8": This means the 6-ton stands don't have to be extended as much to lift by the frame and have the front tires off the ground.

Good to know. I've been stacking wood under the 3 tons so I don't have to extend them too far... time consuming and kind of a pain.

Yeah make sure the wood blocks are substantial enough and wide enough, so the jack stands don't slip off, like it happened with @Wizzard005:

Examined the jack stands and noticed a few holes near the teeth (rust?). Are the holes normal or should a take my loss?

Just buy some new jacks if you want some. You don’t need approval from anyone here.

The bottom hole doesn't look normal. Maybe debris dropped in there and chipped the tooth. However, if you're on the last tooth, the jack stand would be unstable anyway.

If you can afford a 3rd gen Tacoma you can afford some new 6 ton jackstands for peace of mind. No internet rando can tell you the failure chance of jack stands based on a picture.

Get some Esco’s. They’re not cheap. But damn they’re nice. And feel very safe working under the truck

I have the 6 ton Daytona jack stands from Harbor Freight. They are well built, sturdy and lock in place. They're around $75 a set. I like them a lot.

+1 Their weight rating is per stand (normally jack stands are rated in pairs), and you can get extra top posts to provide some flexibility for where you place the stands.

Not flaming you by any means. Please toss those, isn't your ass worth a few bucks ? If you can spend cash to modify your rig, please splurge on something that will prevent your eggshell from being cracked.
