My dealer says they have a substantially similar one coming in "for sure by the 27th" that I'm probably going to switch to--only problem is it's black, which will show dirt and scratches more.

The original one one i had my name on was magnetic gray metallic, so not that much of a difference. I'd prefer to wait for something other than black, but I absolutely NEED to have the truck in hand by July 30 so if settling for black is the only concession i need to make, that's fine.

    Itz JDM tyte, yo!
Yeah I was initially looking for a 6MT Lunar Rock TRDOR but not with the premium package. I've been told a 1 year wait. I then expanded my search for other colors then took a 6MT white Tacoma TRDOR with the LED lights as its only option. It's been great and I have a specific wheel and its color in mind for the truck anyways. Plus the color scheme I'm thinking of will be something different I can enjoy than what my S2000 has.

I was told in February by my dealership in Alabama that Toyota does NOT take factory orders like Ford or Chevy. Toyota works by allocation to dealerships similar to the way Harley-Davidson sells their motorcycles. They do work within a dealer network to try and find what you want, but COVID has dealerships simply hanging on to whatever they can get right now. Toyota does have what is known as a "sold order request" where you pay a specified deposit and request the color of your vehicle, engine size, interior and exterior options, etc. Some options are factory installed, while other accessories are known as "port" options, meaning your vehicle leaves the assembly plant & travels to a regional distributorship for anything else you want on your truck. Upon completion, the vehicle travels to your selling dealership and you get a phone call that brings a smile to your face. I was told up front they would take my deposit of $1K, but no time-line was given as to when my Tacoma would be available. Most dealerships gets allocations twice a month. The dealership submits and continues to submit your "sold order request" over and over until Toyota picks it up and finally builds your truck. There may be various other answers on this thread, but that is how it was explained to me by multiple in-state dealerships as well as out-of-state dealerships. 4x4 drivetrain parts along with leather has been hard to come by for Toyota. They are experiencing supply chain issues as well. It seems no one is immune to that. My call last week said the next 2,500 Tacomas off the assembly line would be 4x4's and leather was now available to those who requested it. I'm slated for a mid-August delivery of a 4x4 TRD Sport Premium w/ advanced technology package in Toyota's elite color of Army Green. If it shows up in time, my wait would be approx. 5-months.

My dealership outright wouldn't do the "sold order request", they pretty much just sat on their hands for 3 months till they got an allocation that just so happened to match up with what I wanted... or NOT in my case.
3 months wasted there till I got tired of nothing. Ended up just saying put me down for anything that comes close to what I wanted and that's when I was given this limited allocation, up till IT got fubar after being built and is now in Limbo Hell.

7 months now since I gave them $1,000 deposit. This is the worst auto shopping experience of my life, without question.
The only reason I have not bailed on the whole thing is the very limited local market and that every other manufacturer has a similar wait.

Did you try other Toyota dealerships within your state. Or maybe a few in a neighboring state? I tried several, but got close to the same answer. No timeframe was given for delivery. I chose the closest dealership to where I live because I have done business with them over the years and I wasn't in a big hurry for a truck. I had time to wait, but I agree with you the shopping experience has been a nightmare. Toyota MUST look into streamlining the process somehow OR just let the consumer order what they want.

I have, but I'm in Montana so there are only 3-4 within a few hundred miles.
Considering the time I've sunk into waiting already, I don't think trying to buy at an out of state dealership would help me at this point but I do have some friends down in Texas and in Las Vegas that I could have checked at too.
Main reason I didn't consider out of state is in MT we don't have sales tax. Although I've heard if you buy from out of state they only charge sales tax if you keep it there? Not sure how that all works.

@stp_abhi Ive been following your comments in this thread because I have an allocation for the same truck (w/o premium) from the same week, also with Autonation Hayward. How did you get your perm vin? I see you truck on the dealer site but mine disappeared. That’s awesome it’s arriving so quickly. I was also told late July/early August.

@Rod03, wondering if you could check this vin again? Yesterday it showed it was still in Newark, but late this evening there was one dealer that received a truck and one more dealer getting a truck in the morning. It seems that semi is on a path towards my dealer and fingers crossed hoping my truck is on there. Vin: 3TYCZ5AN9NT086024

The truck with temp VIN that was given to me is not listed on website anymore and instead I see a different VIN for the same spec. I assumed it would be the permanent VIN for my truck so I checked with the sales manager this morning and he said the truck got delivered and he would let me know when it’s ready to pickup.
