Possibly a 6-cylinder? I'd rather get there in comfort than get there quickly!

The wheels look like 4 cylinder style, but someone could have changed them along the way. Could possibly be a V6 too, there were even straight 6 Fox Mustang's early in the platform if memory serves me.

    3rd time pull over story.

I was riding motorcycles with 2 other guys. A police officer pulled us over.
Guy jumps out of the car and yells! “Get off the bikes and on the ground”
I was was startled. I remember says “What?”.
And the officer still yelling, I don’t what he’s saying. But I remember thinking, “WTF is going on here?”
Eventually “get on the ground” became “sit on the road side”.

He said, “Someone called and reported us, as riding fast and doing stunts.”
And that he wasn’t having guys like us in “his” county.
The guy was definitely not friendly in the least bit. To make matters worse, one of the guys in the group pulled WAY up the road. We’ll call this guy “dickhead”. You will see why later.

The officer ask for my DL license, I hand it to him. Then ask for insurance.
I made a mistake here, a big one I guess. I stand up. Bad move.
Dude freaks outs, jumps in front of me and says sit down or your going to jail. (WTF?)
I told him the insurance was in the back compartment of the bike.
He lets me get up and get it. While reminding me “Not to try to run from him”.
He has my DL, at this point running would be futile.

Now remember, all this time, Dickhead is still WAY up the road.
Dickhead hasn’t had the pleasure of meeting the officer.
But he will. And in the end. Dickhead is our saving grace. (We’ll get to that)

After getting mine and the other guys license. The officer ask, “Who is the other guy is WAY up the road?”(Dickhead). Well, let’s just say, Dickhead might have a history of “running” from the police. And me and the other guy know what “Dickhead” might do. Actually, we’re still amazed Dickhead hasn’t taken off.
Me and the other guy must have had telepathic communication, because we both say “We don’t know”.
Mistake #2. (I gotta quite making mistakes. REMEMBER THIS MISTAKE ;)) The officer might have been a prick, but he wasn’t stupid. I remember him saying, “So we are going to play this game, huh?”

He gets on the loud speaker and tells (Dickhead) the guy up the road to “WALK” back to the car. And to leave the bike. “Dickhead” does as he was told. (Amazing). He walks back to the car and gives his license and insurance to the police officer. (Remember mistake #2 above. Well that mistake just got worse for me) And the officer says we are all getting citations for reckless driving.
Well, Dickheads been around the block, and he demands the caller that reported us come down and ID us. Because we weren’t the only motorcycles on the road that day. The officer tells us to sit on the roadside, that he will be right back. Right back was over 30 mins later. And it’s over 90 outside. And black asphalt is HOT. I think he knew what he was doing here, he knew “Dickhead” was right. And he couldn’t give us a valid ticket. But he could make us miserable for a bit.

He finally comes back, hands me my license and says. “I don’t appreciate you lying to me”.
You’ll see why (remember mistake #2). Then hands the license back to the guy that was WAY up the road. And says, “Here’s you license DICKHEAD”. (Know you know why we call him Dickhead)

What is it that makes Me, Mistake #2, and Dickhead so relevant?
Me and Dickhead have the same Mother and Father.

So why did Dickhead stop so far up the road?
He was planning to run, but seen us pull over.
Because I stopped, and he said he could not leave me and the other guy there alone.
He didn’t want to put us in a bad situation to cover/lie for him. Well, I put myself in it any ways.

Moral of the story here. Some cops have a bad temper. And lying to them doesn’t make it any better.

This is true on both counts, they used a couple of different V6s as well as the 6 in a row in that window.

For some reason a straight 6 Fox Mustang just feels wrong to me, great engines with good torque but just not right.

It wouldn’t surprise me if the 300/4.9 weighs more than the 302?
The 300 was a big heavy engine. I think a 302 is a much better choice.

I dont know if Ford did this but Chevy had nickle in some of their truck blocks. you can definitely tell a weight difference.

Chevy definitely did this with parts.
As for blocks, I don’t know. Specifically the nickel content in the gears of some 4-speed transmissions. I only know this, because this car has a High Nickel transmission for a 68 Corvette. Which was not in the Chevelle.

The inline 6 used in that generation was the Ford 200 in its twilight years, it dated all the way back to 1963 or so. The similar longer stroke 250 was used in Mustangs a few years around 1970.

The 300 engine was a truck application only, its parent the 240 engine was the base engine in the full size Ford (Galaxie) until 1972 and was also available with a 3 speed manual transmission, they weren't very common. :turtleride:

This isn’t mine, but a good friends.
He owned a performance machine shop. And has done a lot of work to it over the years.
I don’t know what all he’s done to it. Just the a few of the details.

A little over a year ago, he was having timing issues.
We pulled the distributor and found the gear worn. Upon further inspection, the cam gear is worn too.
The owners health is pretty bad now. I honestly don’t see the car ever getting fixed. His wife said, “He told her he should just sell it”.

    This isn’t a street car.
    It’s a 427 - Corvette gear box 4/Spd - 11.5:1 compression - 4:56 gear
Running a mix of 93/110 race gas.

There a lot more done to it. But I don’t remember.
    I burnt myself out on rebuilding/restoring a 1979 TransAm.
I haven’t felt the need to mess with a muscle car since.

I just like to turn a key and go. I don’t care about how fast it gets me there. As long as it gets me there.
I guess that’s just another way of saying, “I’m getting old”. I don’t care anymore.

I didn’t have any money after that TA build.
And that was back in 1999 when you still buy parts reasonably.
Not to mention, it was my daily driver too. All I did was work, buy parts, spend money, stay broke.
Sounds about right for a kid in high school huh?

I also learned. The girls don’t really care what kind of car you drive if have no money to take them on a “real date”.

Did I learn my lesson? Hell no.
I turned right around and built my 1st Gen Tacoma.
And lost every penny I had in accessories and mods when I sold it.

    I’m a slow learner.

I eventually learned. And now, a “mod” to me is floor liners and seat covers.

Yup I remember the 200 in a row, the Granada was one you found that in I think.

The 200 was the base engine in the first gen Granada 75 - 80 along with the options of 250, 302 or 351. The 250 and 351 options were dropped in the second gens.

The first gens were a fairly heavy car, I bet that 200 was pretty s..l..o..w. I drove 250 & 302 powered cars, not bad for power but they felt kind of old even when new with small windows and long flat hoods like a motorboat.

The second gens were lighter, brighter, more nimble cars based on the Fox chassis Fairmont, a 302 in those was quite snappy even in its emissions strangled early 80's form.

Charlie, you should make an instructional on how people should secure cargo in the beds of their trucks. Too many people just toss stuff in the bed and think that gravity will keep it there.

I always carry several bungee cords and rope just in case I have to put stuff in the bed.

    Safe travels
