Cut & broke off stuff. Prolific ziptie and tape usage.
2024 would be 8 years. Seems about right for a refresh. Minor bumper and grill change for cosmetics. Maybe different touchscreen inside or something like that. Wouldn't expect anything major or mechanical though.

The wrench in it is all the supply issues.

Maybe they offer a scavenger hunt limited edition where a few trucks are made with whatever spare parts they could find to make it.

Liking the renders, dig the squared off panels and am hoping for a slightly wider truck. I doubt the EV storm trooper mockup represents the next model. It looks very dated. Time to move on from 2nd gen refreshes.

I'm still convinced that white truck is nothing but a 3rd Gen with some fiberglass pieces so they could roll something out to say they are working on electric. They completely blacked out the windows so you couldn't see inside of it too.

How do you expect to pump gas without electricity?

Mechanical changes are going to be huge actually, while it hasn’t been officially announced sources and spy shots have basically confirmed Toyota’s putting the next Tacoma and 4Runner on a smaller version of the new platform that the Land Cruiser, Tundra and Sequoia are on.

Think some people have a stash of jerry cans or somesuch... that said, you can also have a stash of solar panels or somesuch.

I always loved that argument luddites make.

Relying on an oil production byproduct that involves a super long and complex supply chain vs FREE ENERGY LITERALLY FALLING FROM THE SKY

You just watch who filled up and go drill their tanks at night. Heck they do that now and there is no disaster. Of course they might need to think ahead of time and have a hand drill, as their cordless will only drill so many tanks on a charge, and you might drill a few dry holes till you hit pay dirt.

I beg to differ. I prefer the looks of my 2012 and the interior of my 2017. I actually can't wait for the new 4th gen Tacomas to have a Tundra influence. I'll get rid of my 3rd gen in 2025/26 for the 4th gen.

Thats I the ultimate off-road rig imho. Perfect size and ratio, as well as look. I always drooled over this concept build as it was ahead of its time.

Generators are pretty popular today, as they often are after a summer storm. When the power is out and you don't know how many days before it gets restored. Solar panels aren't much good when a tree is laying on top of them.

Most preppers have both, like a bit of redundancy. Our old property had a year round creek on it, thought a small hydro generator would be cool. Probably add a wind turbine to that equation too. Though all to run electronic gizmos, humans have lived longer without electricity than with it.

To be fair, again... most of our 'free energy from the sky' here consists of raindrops which degrade panel performance... :p

So.. a diversity of energy sources. Hydro, Wind, Solar, Fossil. Also some curtailment if things are getting shitty and you need to figure out what's important and what's just a luxury.

everyone said the same thing about the 3rd gen.

the third gen actually turned to be the best looking Tacoma ever made. It’s simultaneously the worst Toyota truck ever made, but definitely the best looking.

Those latest renderings look terrible, will look hard at the Ranger if that’s the design direction they take.

Heh my offgrid stuff is in my garage, next to the generator. Neither of those things are 'good if there's a tree on top of them', but you can likely find some of the panels that survived and run a quick DC loop or four and at least pull out a couple of Kw.

I like how there are all these scenarios on why an EV would be boned in a bad situation, but an ICE vehicle gets a pass.

Once some Russian hackers force the Sun to stop working until they get paid, let me know, and I'll call it even.

Is anyone charging their EV with a natural gas generator instead of using electricity from their home?

    It's probably more efficient.

If your home's electricity comes from a power plant that runs off of natural gas, that's not the same, and that electricity is probably more expensive. Than using a ng powered generator.

Um.. depends on your area. Here it's all hydro at about 10c/kWh. YMMV. That said, even with NG, power plants have economies of scale over a genset, and are correspondingly more efficient.
