I'm with you. I used to have a Corvette ZO6 and wanted to be one of the cool kids so I did headers and catless x pipes. It did sound better and got 25 or so rwhp, but I had a constant fuel smell that drove me (and the wife) crazy. Ended up putting cats back in and smell went away. No way on earth I'd do it on this truck

i would OVTUNE and/or regear before you consider something like this. Real gains are made from these two and after OVTune running the Blackhawk tune from the Nexus tuners (@Mooseditty17) my truck is a whole different animal getting 20+ mpgs on highway (13mpg towing 4K lbs) on 32’s with bumper, winch, armor and 4.88’s. Awesome driving experience with power to boot. Contact Moose, he will set you up

Yup. My Mustang is catless and the garage stinks as the car idles. At a stop light you get a nice whiff of it too. I want to put cats back on but I'm lazy and don't want to pay for another dyno tune to make sure I'm still good.

Ha been there done that. Trust me you’re gonna get to the point where you’ll do something about it. Another option is you can do high flow cats which you’ll have to replace periodically but you won’t have to Dyno it again

I never realized there would be such an issue with removing cats. Back in the 90s when myself and most of my buddies were running Ford 5.0 we all just ran an h-pipe with no cats and flowmasters. Don't ever recall an issue with fuel smell.

Yea it seems to be hit or miss I’ve heard of other people going catless and not having issues as well

Same issues with the turbo cars I had back in the day. They would stink at idle in traffic.

You underestimate my laziness. I've owned the car going on 21 years now and its been catless for at least 18. While I'd probably be ok without a retune it's supercharged so would make me feel better knowing for sure it was good. Already runs a touch richer than normal because of that.

I have a newer 2 stroke snowmobile and it barely even smells like a 2 stroke anymore. Pretty much no smoke or smell. Not sure if I like it better or not... miss the smell but not stinking my suit up is nice too.

I miss riding snowmobiles. My GF hated when I came home haha. My gear had a permanent 2 stroke smell.

If you have a 4x4 3rd gen Tacoma, and the word performance enters your mind sell it sell it now.

Then buy one of the following Ram 1500, F-150, or a GM 1500 V8 regcab short bed. 2nd choice would be a Ram TRX or Ford Raptor. Then you could consider a Honda Ridgeline, or Hyundai Santacruz. 3rd and final choice would be a F-150 Lighting or even a Rivian R1T, if you consider battery powered vehicles as performance vehicles.

The Tacoma isn't made for performance, not the kind you are looking for

How did you wind up putting the TRX/Raptor as your second choices? I rode in a TRX when a friend of a friend got his delivered. It was AWESOME and at first I wanted to drive my taco off of a cliff and go buy one with the insurance money. Then I came back to my senses and realized the Tacoma was so much more practical for my needs. Not to mention I couldn't imagine taking a $100k truck offroad and beating on it the way I do with my rig out in the desert here.

5.7 Ram was no match for me, that’s before I added armor and things of course.

Did you ever drive a manual 3rd gen taco? Lots of power at higher rpms.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
I have headers and no cats on my 86 C10 with a bored and built 5.7. It sets a lot so back in the spring I started it and proceeded to wash my daily driver sitting 6 feet away from the C10 as it idled. It ran for 30 min or so and I could smell the exhaust but didn't really think much of it. About an hour later I had a horrible headache and was like well, looks like you just sucked up a bunch of carbon monoxide throwing a wrench into that day. Now I am a little more aware and move it over in front of the neighbors while it idles! JK.

I did a cat delete on a 2008 Accord V6 6 speed. Same "engine" as a the Odyssey. No odd smells... lol
    that thing was quick though.
