So, I got a set of Focal 165s that comes with woofer, tweeter and external crossover. Physical install was a bit of a PITA but typical, I suppose. But the electrical part isn't working, no sound. The way I approached this was to tap the + and - front channel speaker wires in the truck side bundle of the tweeter connection and use that as the input to the crossover. The crossover box has separate outputs for the woofer and tweeter and I connected these up directly to their respective speakers.

The factory speaker wires are odd, the plug on the tweeter on the passenger side has 4 prongs, blue, green, blue, green. If you look under the shrink tube both blues are tied together and both greens are tied together. I tapped one of the blues and one of the greens in the truck side to use as the crossover input. Maybe I need to tap the other pair of blue and green on the truck side?? I am going to go try that.

I would make sure that you are plugged into the correct wires first. If that still doesn't work, plug the old tweeter back in and see if it works. If it does, you have chosen the wrong wires. If it doesn't then your issue is elsewhere. Start working your way back to the radio

There's an excellent thread on the Subaru-branded Kicker tweeter upgrade, in which the OP describes how to modify the wiring connector to fit. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...plicing-cutting-or-soldering-required.623038/ Posted in the Audio/Video Forum, link at bottom of these pages. Search Tacomaholic channel on YouTube, as I recall he posted a video on speaker upgrade, and he's likely found in the TW forums, too. .

It was the other pair of wires. Apparently the first pair I tapped was the return pair for the woofer if using the factory harness. 50-50 90 as we used to say in the Navy... whenever you have a 50-50 choice 90% you get it wrong. I should have tested them first before soldering. The driver's side took me all of 30 minutes. All good now with glorious new sound.

I usually hit 100%, even doing it twice. First time 100% wrong, reset, move on, second set 100%, reset, and on we go... I met a new electrician here, just out of USCG, and his senior told me to ask him about hooking up the welder ground to a ship at the dock. No thanks, I've known about that since a HVAC technician and owner of a commercial seiner told me that when he touched the engine exhaust stack in the galley, he was getting an electrical shock... Maybe the sea otters were attracted to the buzz...
