Blower Motor Power Connector

Alright, I just recently replaced my blower motor resistor and enjoyed 4 days of glorious AC. On the 5th day, I was on my way home from work and the motor shut off completely, leaving me with instant regret, should've bought the motor and resistor at the same time. I have the motor on order but, I did a little more investigating and to my surprise, I found that the connector that supplies power to the motor is nice and toasty. I'm having a hard time finding a replacement connector that I can just splice in. Any help on replacement connectors would be greatly appreciated!

I matched mine up from a mid 2000's Honda Accord in a junkyard, Toyota does sell the pigtail harness for the blower motor but it's the same junky kind of plastic, the Honda one was black and of a higher temp rating with larger conductors.

I also packed it full of dielectric grease to insulate some of the heat off the plastic.

 

I've seen a couple of Amazon harnesses but every time I look at the reviews, there's always a problem with the incorrect wire gauge. I'm no electrician but could you get away with having a smaller gauge wire?

 

Dielectric grease is such a good idea! I'll have to pick some up when I find a good replacement connector.

 

No, I wouldn’t use anything smaller than what it is now.
Since you’ll be cutting it anyways, you cam measure what it is now.

Blower motor P/N was also superceded, they got a different one now that's more efficient and doesn't get nearly as hot at the plug if your motor is original it might not be a bad idea to pick a new one up from the dealer, they usually run between 75 and 130 bucks I think I got mine for 90.

When I replaced my plug I didn't replace my motor (which was definitely original) until later when it started squeaking/chirping. After pulling it apart and cleaning it and relubricating it twice I got tired, brought the dealer the part number off the old one and they said the new one was a different number.

 

Get the parts and assemble a new harness.

Not sold as a kit, sold as each. So you will need one of the plugs and two of the terminal and wires.

Corsa sells the terminals to avoid multiple crimps.

 

Can't tell how many wires are on the connector in the photo - but the replacements look like 2 as expected. You could temporarily, or I'd consider permanently splicing and wire nutting the 12v leads to the motor. There will be no connector points to burn and not a big deal to replace the motor later.

 

You could do that, but in order to wire nut the motor to the vehicle wires you would have to connect a set of wires to the male terminals on the motor as that plug goes directly into the motor housing.

I wouldn't do it.

 

Please, never use wire nuts in an automotive (or marine) application. Save them for use in your house.

Now that I see the motor I wouldn't do it either! I thought there were leads coming from the motor to a connector.

Even at home I'll secure wire nuts with electrical tape and a wire tie. I agree for automotive/marine use there's the potential for them to become loose. Forget that idea.

 

I figured that is what you were thinking and why I posted the picture and explained it.

 

As the saying goes - a picture is worth a thousand words... Good to see parts and electrical connectors seem to be available for gen 2 Tacomas - at least online. Something I'll have to get used to doing rather than buying local.

 

My blower connector did the same thing. I cut the connector and wired directly to the connector in the blower housing, using, I believe, .187” female blade terminals.
