It's definitely caught up with me. Last year I separated my right shoulder just getting out of the dump truck. I still don't know how that happened but it did. And I've only got a couple more seasons before I get to pull the plug so it's all coming to an end right on time.

And I'm not so sure I'm going to miss the equipment. It'll be 40 plus years of running equipment and I've about had my fill. It's been fun and I've worked on some really cool projects but I have no problem hanging up my keys when it's time. And it's almost time.

Bahaha. super electricians clutch/brake broke the shaft on me Again tonite, thats 3 high dollar clutches in 3 days and 20 hours production loss. he digs the hole alittle deeper. 20 hours, thats like 100,000 books lost. and its not a load bearing assembly its just start/stop and is breaking a 7/8ths dia. steel shaft into.also another line down tonite for electrical issue. o_O

That must be a lot of torque to break a shaft like that.

thats just it. all it does is drive a paddle chain with pushers on it to strip the bottom book out. I may be wrong but there is not a great torque load on it and it runs at slow rpm’s,the load on the clutch is minimal.unless they are putting it in with out perfect alignment as the shaft goes to the other side frame with a pillar bearing. no u joints so asume it has to be lined up true or it will be in a bind. the mounting plate for it has adjustment to get it true. if not in true would that create torque Martin?

Should be as straight and true as possible. If there's stop and start and any backlash with nothing to mitigate it, it would definitely be an issue. A 7/8" diameter shaft that has any kind of length you should see maybe some wabble if it's not true. But you'd think if it's that guy's job to fix it he'd have an idea how to do it. And definitely 3 downs in 3 days I know I'd be making calls and looking for all the information I could and checking everything. If for no other reason, to save a lot of embarrassment.

Is that where the other 2 breaks occurred?

yes! the shaft coming from the clutch to the coulper, the other shaft in the coupler goes to a pulley then to a flange bearing in the oposite frame. almost has to be an allinment issue. broke in the same spot each time.something isnt right. we have those clutch/ brakes all over the line. six that i know of. never a problem till the plates in them wear out. then replace and run.not my job but really want to know whats wrong.our binderly maint. coordinator is back in this morning from a leave,he will figure it out. most mechanical mind in the plant. im going to delete the pics. wanted you to see it first but its a inhouse designed unit.built like a tank and runs awsome.it allows me to run 2up on small bulk books. we are the only line with one in the plant. thanks fir helping troubleshoot:thumbsup:
