Well, where I live (Eastern WA., about 1/2 hour away from ID. ..) Gas in WA. here is $5.25 right now. ID. ... $4.79 as of a week ago.
I get into ID. enough to where I buy gas there. (Plus sales tax is about 3% cheaper, and they have no 'sin taxes' on liquor/tobacco/etc.)
All that aside ... I'm kinda' OCD about always keeping the tank full. Never know if we might get invaded by Hottentots ... LOL!
I almost never let my tank get less than 1/2 full... But on the rarer occasion, never below 1/4 full. I learned my lesson before on other rigs about not letting the fuel pump overheat because there wasn't enough gas sloshing around it. Just my 2 cents...

Have always only filled up if I’m going somewhere that will likely use up more than my current fuel, or if I’ve got 5 or less miles to go per the indicator.

On road trips, I start looking for gas stations once I’m under 100 miles to go on the tank and will top off each morning if I’ve got less than 3/4 of a tank remaining.

The gas attendant asked today if I wanted a receipt, I said "why the fuck would I want a reminder?" Haha.

Anyway, I generally fill up just under a quarter tank.

LOL! It's always the road-trip thing, right? When you fill up it's 'Let's ROCK!!! Open highway!!!' ... And then when you get under a 1/4 tank, it's 'Damn!! I knew I shoulda' stopped at that last gas station 50 miles back...' LOL! Been there a hundred times.. LOL

Living in a seismically active area, we do our best to refill at the 1/2 way mark. Two vehicles means we always have a full tank of gas between us.

I’m surprised at how many people think they need to haul ass out of harms way…. What’s the impending doom, things suck, but no one will attack the United States of America, we’re down, have shitty leadership, but we’re still the strongest country on the planet.

I pump every Friday after work, unless I plan to use my truck over the weekend for long hauls. We primarily use the 4Runner , which I try and pump Saturday mornings. My goal for pumping gas is to do it when my family won’t be bothered. This way we have more time together and they don’t have to worry about these little things. The last time my wife pumped gas was probably 5 years ago, and before that another 5 years.

Yep, pending societal breakdown is why I keep my tanks full as well. I too have fully stocked bug out setup ready to go to get us up to our mountain cabin about an hour away. The cabin has enough supplies to last several months. Good times!

Back in the old days, an 1/8 tank on a hot texas summer meant that you were loosing half of that to evaporation. I try to fill up at 1/4.

1/2 tank for me. I don't mind stopping in at gas stations to fill-up because of the peace of mind it brings me knowing: (1) I have at least a 1/2 tank or more, and (2) not having to see more than $45.00 on any single fill-up.

You're not living if you're filling up before the gauge reads empty.

    upload_2022-7-15_7-53-38.jpg

Joking of course. I try to keep the Taco as close to full as possible as I don't drive it more than three or four times a month anymore and I like knowing that I've always got a vehicle with a full tank, or at least close to it. My DD gets filled up every other Monday morning at Sam's Club on my way into work. I'm usually between 50 to 75 miles or so to empty when it comes time to fill 'er up; works out well. I carry a 5 gallon jerry can on camping trips and when hitting the trails too.

On long trips I try not to go below 1/4 tank, but will fill up whenever we stop for a break, so usually don't even get close to 1/4. Those of you that are driving close to empty are braver souls than I; never know if you're gonna hit traffic or something else that's gonna have you sitting for an hour or more.

For me, and I assume others, it's more to do with weather and other emergencies. I'm not too concerned with any sort of attack.

I live where there aren't a ton of gas stations and the majority of them aren't open late at night. Just driving to the city and back is a half tank of gas itself and I pass just one station on the way that closes at 9pm and only has one pump.

Doesn't hurt to have more gas.

I usually go by time, not tank level. Every other Friday after work on my way home, which usually puts me around 3/8 to 1/2 tank. I like to fill up when I'm alone so I'm not making anyone wait on me, and I like to always have close to 1/2 tank or more in case the need/desire to make the 100mi round trip to Omaha arises, I don't have to worry about filling up before or during the trip.

That's my normal day-to-day strategy, but for long road trips on the interstate I drive it till it's nearly empty so I don't have to stop as often.

No chance I am filling up at 1/2 tank. You know how many more gas stops I would have made in my life. I have been driving for 30 years now and have never had a disaster in California where I couldn't get gas.
