"Rustproofing" the new Tacoma

Years ago in 70’s when I had a rust proofing job, we often found many cars were rusting. My boss says just spray on the rust proofing, we offer. 5 year warranty, many will notice till after?

I am sure many of today’s vehicles are better protected from rusting. No harm in adding more protection. And do not expect a 100% rust proof vehicle.

Rust proofing does add a more sound proofing or quieter running .

 

Surface Shield

Just bought a few rattle cans of surface shield, I normally use fluid film, but I sprayed the surface shield in my wheel wells were the ff gets washed off. In a few months we will see if we have a winner.

Not all rust proofing is rubberized.
After watching that video of Ziebart. Mechanic cannot burn off the Ziebart , do the flammability if the nuts and bolts are all cover with Ziebart. Nuts and bolts will rust underneath, hard to work with and removed.

The rust proofing we work with as more like a paint. No longer in business.

I'm not finding LIQUIDFILM as a brand whatsoever.

Maybe he meant SQUIRTYSTUFF, I heard that also was good.

 

Fluid Film says it will last 3years. Cost per gallon $40. For a company to coat a small car prices start at $150 , for full size vehicles $250 + . Prices will vary from dealers. Good to know.

 

What about a product called "WoolWax", and does undercoating the vehicle impact one's 60mo / unlimited miles corrosion, perforation
warranty?

Woolwax cost around $50. Look like a DIY product. Need to buy spray gun. They mention less smelling then Fluid film. Suppose to last indefinitely? But if you use a power washer it can remove the wool wax.
Some people will coat once a year. And after coating they recommend to drive on a dirt road, the dirt adds extra protection on the coating.
Sold on Amazon, best to read all the reviews posted on Amazon and decide for your self.

I do wonder if applying the product would result in negating the 5yr unlimited mileage warranty...

Also FWIW, when you visit the site referenced here, look at their FAQ. It seems to suggest application is yearly, but only areas really exposed to the elements, like for example, the wheel wells, etc. Areas sprayed accessible by some rubber cap (inside doors?) need not receive yearly treatment.

Last year in Upstate NY, we really didn't get much snow, so not much salt and sand was encountered, YMMV. We just ran our cars through the wash and that seemed to be workable. The product FAQ suggests people not run their vehicles through the wash with water blasted at the underside. It does suggest simply hosing off dirt with low pressure if one wants, but also suggesting it's a good idea to run the truck over some dirt roads, and that the dirt helps provide another layer of protection.

I was also going to recommend wool wax.If I remember correctly the product is a spin-off from fluid film and is or is not the same company.No need to make it complicated guys Fluid film can be applied at home.I would be careful in the small to reach crevasses of the frame however.Some people recommend spraying marine grade product in there just to be sure you have them covered.

 

Woolwax can be applied at home too. Go back and see my earlier post, all the info you want is in the links. Woolwax spun off from Fluid Film and is thicker which means it doesn’t wash off as easily. I’ve been using it for couple years now and I’m a big fan. Zero new rust and I’m definitely in a high salt area. You don’t need to reapply every year but it doesn’t hurt to touch it up. I go through the auto car wash with undercarriage blast and it doesn’t hurt it.

Like others said don’t over think this. All of the lanolin based products are good to go. They are all a sticky goopy snot that won’t easily wash off which is good. They will not void your warranties far as I can tell (really not sure how this stuff would be harmful in any way for them to even consider it). Just do it.
