I am thinking about running 4 donuts wheel/tires on my tacoma until the gas prices come down a bit. Anyone know what is a good size donut, wheel tire combo, for the tacoma. I figure I'll stay off the interstate for the most part.

Just a wild guess but stock size of 245 75 16 would probably be most optimal.

Just put stock size 265-65-17 Michelins on it and call it good. Donuts won't get you much better than that.

Alternatively, calculate your possible ROI on a set of tires vs a moped, since you have the option of staying off the interstate.

And this might be the first donut thread that has a chance of not getting axed. :cookiemonster:

Will the gas savings over the period off set the cost of the doughnuts?
    Used wheels $50 ea.
New cheap 265/75/16 tires $125 ea.
Mounting balancing tax. $20 ea. min.
Total around $780.00 for possibly an extra 1-2 mpg.

My math may be a little rusty but. All rough estimates...
2 mpg increase on a 20 gal tank. = 40 extra miles per tank. at 18 mpg ='s 2 gal savings per tank.
    2 gal @ $5/gal = $10 savings/tank. $780/10=78 tanks needed for ROI.
400 miles per tank X 78 tanks = 31,200 miles need to recoup money spent on doughnuts.
If you drive 15,000 miles a year. It'll take over 2 years just to break even.

A 3.5 V6 4X4 DC will get over 20 mpg if driven properly. Even with oversize tires.
I think I'd just learn how to drive better.

And that's at $5 per. I don't know about other neighborhoods, but it's already creeping back down where I'm at.

Yesterday's fillup was at 3.80. :anonymous:

I calculated that $4.90 was my breakeven between using the truck as a commuter and a one-month rail/bus pass. I hope not to see that. :anonymous::anonymous:

I have seen a couple bros on the local FB pages looking to trade or sell their bronuts for smaller wheels/tires since gas shot up. I didn't want to ruin a good deal for someone in the market that could use math :D
