I was under 18k and mine had ball joint and x-axis bushings that had failed. I was able to warranty them out but sold the replacements as I don't want to have to replace them yearly.

Anyone added an aal to their medium dakars and know if you need longer u-bolts to convert the medium duty to heavy? I ordered from Headstrong and they weren't sure if the u-bolts they sent with the mediums would work when converting the leaf pack to heavy.

Generally a good idea to replace with new ones anyway. Would be a great time to go to durobumps/flip kit if you can swing the cash. You can go take a look at your u-bolts tho, do you have a spare 1/2"?

I have new ubolts with the mediums I just ordered but noticed that they recommend a longer set with the heavy pack.

I haven’t installed yet so hard to know if they’d work.

I went to the store yesterday and I'm looking at two 5 gallon cans of gas on my bumper. Then thought about gas prices these days. Then I'm thinking about how those cans are full of supreme ethanol free with some Sta-bil. Liquid gold pretty much. The padlock has been cut before and cans stolen. Maybe I should not be rolling around town with them?

Do you run out of gas often? Why carry them?

    to look cool of course!
no, never actually ran out. but they've been used on other rigs. but those are usually camping trips or WABDR or something. I'm a nice guy and I'll pull over and give gas to a stranger.

members that got gas from me: @Greddy and @JimSnell

but yeah I think I'll only carry them when camping or wheeling or something.

Sometimes they can be used for acquiring gas. Good luck trying to catch a drip with a Roto Pax :anonymous::rofl:

I filled up at 4.89 and 5.69 today. 50/50 if I'd take a full 5gal if I saw one, but I did have my cutoff saw with me just in case I was feeling froggy

I think you need to move haha! I carry mine with me all the time, lately with no padlock.

I remember that time i bummed some gas off you!

We stopped at a gas station in Chelan and we were heading north on the WABDR. Put the gas nozzle in my truck and locked it on, went and talked to you or someone. Then i came back and it had shutoff, so without even thinking I just put it back on the pump and we headed out. Then at some point I finally looked at my gauge and it had only put a few gallons in! Shutoff early for some reason and did not have enough gas to get to the next station.

Another scary moment I had was in Eastern Oregon a long time ago.
I was driving out to go on a 5 day rafting trip on the Grand Ronde, the kind where you leave your truck and your keys and someone will ferry your truck to the take out. Well gas stations were few and far between out there and I didn't top off thinking half a tank was enough. Well when I got my truck after the trip my gas light turned on and i had 3-4 gallons. Well my buddy who was driving with me (along with 3 others) was the navigator and starting to take us on this 100 mile forest road back to the highway instead of the correct way. Well we got about 15 miles up this road and there were no cars, it was 90 degrees out and i knew we weren't going to make it. So i made the decision to turn around and at least go back to civilization, which was a little town called Troy, OR with an old school gas pump that was closed. Mind you this was mid-day on like a Wednesday. Well we ended up finding a resident and luckily it was the lady that owned this closed gas station. She turned it on, gave us about 10 gallons (at like $5/gal, this was like 7years ago) so we could get to Lewiston.
Soon as I got home I ordered a couple Jerry Cans.

Here's a reference, for how fucked we were about to be. The red line being the route my buddy thought was the right way. This was before I had Gaia, InReach, etc.

Shoestring is very doable in a 2nd/3rd gen tacoma. I’ve done it a few times. @utroda did it in his 2nd gen with LT.

Sweet. I think he’s the one that told me it was too tight for a second gen but then again I can’t remember what I ate for dinner last night or I have it mixed up with a different trail over there.

Some of naches can be pretty gnarly. I dented my cab and rubbed my door handle on a tree last time on upper naches
