I wish him well. The Pens signed more than I thought they would. After hearing the media buzz, I thought Malkin was gone. Jan Rutta looks like an interesting sign. Now who goes: Marino or Petterson. Probably Marino as he is more appealing.

I have had my moments with Malkin, but for $6M, who else are you going to get who averages over a point a game?

I agree. Ya, im not sure. Marino being a right shot was always something that made him hard to move. But i believe Rutta is also, so if they felt that they needed to move him, at least we have another righty.

Rutta, Marino and Petterson are all righties.

Ya, so that's good if they feel the need to move Marino there is at least another right in the fold. I guess it depends on if they see him as a solid top 4 guy. MP is a good player but there isn't a ton of risk if you move him. He's more replaceable. Marino, I'm not sure what they think of him at this point.

From what I read, Few will want Petterson at over $4M with 3 years left. The Pens would have to sweeten the pot for somebody to take him, like Ottawa did with Murray.

I was looking at the details. I thought Smith was a throw in but he appears to have some potential. They just shaved about $3.5M off the salary cap hit. I think Petterson - or Dumoulin - may go too. I wasn't thrilled with Hextall at first, but he seems to be pushing the right buttons now.

Who saw Petry for Matheson? Wow. Petry has a hefty cap hit. I still think there is ne more to go and he may be a give away for some cap space.

I think they're still carrying 9 D as well, so surely there are more moves coming, at least I hope. Speaking of hope....hopefully, last season's downward trend for Petry isn't a sign of future return for the Pens on this deal.

I don't quite get that one. I dont like the contract, I dont see the need to unnecessarily bring in older players etc. Plus, I really liked how Matheson fit in. 2 guys that sort of really fit in the past couple years were Ceci and Matheson. Didn't like seeing them go.

I’ve been a fan going back to the 80a and was a STH for a good while when I worked in/near downtown and I think if we Pens fans are being honest, the window closed after about 2018. That said, they’re still better than a lot of teams in the league so I’m happy for them to squeeze what they can out of the remaining bit of the Crosby.

As a #1 long time fan of the Pens I think this statement is hard to argue . The Pens are a shadow of what they once were , and we as #1 long time Pens fans , have all been in denial for quite a while now

    well said brother Pens fan

Like I mentioned earlier, there are teams with top dollar players in the prime of their career who haven't won a thing. So who is to really say what the window is? Pens outplayed NYR all series and basically lost because their 2 goalies got hurt, along with Crosby. I would consider NYR a team that is entering their prime window and they got lucky go get by the Pens. Do I expect the Pens to win a Cup this upcoming year, no. But there is no reason they can't have a good year. Keep in mind, after the 09 Cup and multiple failures, there was much doom and gloom about that team. It only took a few things to go their way and they put up a back-to-back Cup run. If a team can hang around and re-tool on the fly, if some things go your way, you get hot at the right time etc etc you never know. Look at Montreal's run recently. Who expected that? No one. Even Dallas going to the Finals was something I didn't expect.
