I’m gunna go ahead and post,

I just bought a 2022 TRD off-road 4x4, but it hasn’t been delivered yet. So no real experience driving it, but I like them so much I sold a 2018 802a Raptor to buy this :)

    Hope I didn’t make a mistake ;)

No reason except Toyota has far better quality control. I have the suv version of the 2nd gen, the Xterra, and before I bought it everything I looked up about it was how coolant would get into the transmission and destroy it. Luckily I found a manual. Mechanics on YT mostly seem to think quality has gone down with Nessan as a whole recent years

The new gen Frontier is definitely “nicer” in almost every way with a stronger engine than our 3rd gen Tacoma. However, Nissan quality (lack there of), and poor resale value resulted in me ordering another 3rd gen Tacoma.

I am super thankful I was able to get one , it perfect for for me and my three boys (single dad life)
When I got it, I hadn’t looked much at different gen I was looking at mileage and availability. So picked up 3rd gen. honestly, and I’m sure someone will pre their pant angry, I can’t stand the wheel wells fender shape of the 2nd gen.
just me personally , the weird angle forward just looks weird to me

It seems to have yo-yo'ed back up

But even toyota quality fell went to look at new tundras and half the interior wasn't snapped in properly and the exterior plastics were all pretty flimsy, fake stitching mounded into the plastic interior... they're on par if you ask me

My son bought my 04 and I still drive it from time to time. It's fun for short runs but not as good as my 3rd gen.

Love everything about mine except for the engine. I know it's bulletproof and that's what really matters, but my god its slow. Hoping the KD Max tune is going to help out a bit with driving dynamics.

i can't stand leaving a light to make a left hand turn and by the time i straighten out it's in 5th already, so now it hops, skitters, skips, and jumps it's way ALLLLLL the way back down to 2nd or 1st, making an unnecessary ruckus for the 30 seconds that feels like 10 years. and i never topped 20mph.

i end up just driving it like a clutchless manual...

I may be lucky, or it may be due to the 2.7. I have zero gear hunting and the truck drives smoothly. Then again, I'm driving like grandpa and saving gas so that may have something to do with it, but I don't see any "hunting" I always read about

Well rats, looks like I missed some fun this weekend.

Meanwhile I was going to mention that with a trailer, cooler, kayak and luggage, it still didn't gear hunt, 15.5 mpg on the way down, 14.6 on the return.

Love my 3rd gen, don’t honestly miss my 2nd gen at all besides the spruce mica paint. Kd max pro and 285s and the trans shift fine with no gear hunting. If I need a full size I would go back to a Cummins but for a mid size truck my 3rd gen is about perfect!

Why is because the programming is made to select the gear most fuel efficient so its always going to try and reduce RPMs depending on load.

If you're running at a speed thats between shift points, driving in a head wind or driving hilly terrain you can always clear the gear it's jumping between by removing the higher gear using S mode.

I love my 3rd gen. despite a few issues which could be rectified if I had the money to dump into. More torque would be lovely but sadly these were designed with fuel economy primary in mind, not performance.

I’m an admitted Toyota nerd, but here it goes,

I built and drove this T100 for 22+ years:

    340B83BF-1370-4A51-8D19-AA88668D9835.jpg

I sold it to buy this:

    F1579C22-9629-41D0-9B6A-048E01507A56.jpg

I drove the Raptor 7 months and sold it to buy this:

    55A4C3D1-7118-4D93-822D-45B9BCDCB528.jpg

I expect to keep this long enough for him to be driving it at some point.

Man I honestly wouldn't mind selling my 3rd gen. to buy that T100 in the picture and a daily driver. You plan on putting any work into your new taco?

What was it about the Raptor that made you dump it so quickly.

I have Raptor / Tremor envy and I need real world testimony to squash it. The High price of gas alone will not do it
