What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Good chance you LCA cams are not in the same position causing the wheel to sit in a different location on each side.

 

Now I am worried about my ball joints. I ordered a set of OEM from Amazon and didn't open the box for months. When I finally did, they were 555 in colored plastic bags, not the fancy boxes like yours did.

 

555 come in those orange boxes and colored bags. Here's when I did mine for the Tacoma -



OEM comes in a clear bag with Toyota part numbers. Here's when I did mine for the 4Runner -

 

That is pretty likely. It did rub some this morning on the passenger side while compressed easing diagonal down a hill on my property, so it needs some clearance work as well. Driving around town I was getting a lot of driver side rubbing on right turns with that 225lb in the driver seat pushing into the direction of the body roll.

I would really like to do the cam delete kit and get new UCAs to make sure everything is aligned how it's supposed to be in the future.

I assume so, but this is my first time doing gears and this was my first attempt so just wanting some more opinions before I throw it in the truck.

 

Anyone know which side is the transmission cooler return line on our radiators? Trying to plumb an external cooler inline with the existing one.

 

IIRC, on mine (v6, A340F) the drivers side was the return side.

 

Ah thanks. I wasn't sure if the four cyl differs from the v6.

 

Like mentioned, the line that comes out the hardline and routes to the driver side of the radiator is the return line.

Was the same on my 4R as my Tacoma.

Used Gates transmission line

 

Pattern looks good, favors the toe side on the ring gear on the drive side. Which is a better than ideal setup as the gear deflects under load it will be dead center on the tooth. Can tell pinion is good placement as well due to the "comet tail" wide on the beginning of tooth engagement then trails off as it goes through the cycle.

Getting about 8 in/lbs of preload with a solid spacer. Thoughts on that?

I agree. Looks good. Maybe a touch deep but not enough to redo anything.

 

8in lbs is way too low, you want to be in 16-20ish range. Take some shims off in front of the solid spacer.
