My wife and I have a different opinion on them.

I think they look cool and provide a function. She thinks they are hideous. I've been in some fairly deep water, but nothing that a snorkel would have been warranted (probably to the top of the wheel, but not top of tire). So for now, I'm just envious of y'all who got them....especially those that got them when they were like $270 shipped.

I sank a T100 in republic of Panama in a Typhoon rain storm in 1990. While I never intended to submerge the Tacoma in that much water, nor do I plan on fording anything over my wheels so I can protect my electronics, I like the cleaner air function and some reduced danger of hydro-locking my Taco. I have a Volant CAI intake that had previously had the large full grill width air scoop in addition to the wheel well air intake. I've since sealed that forward intake hole, sealed the mounting holes in the air box when I installed the snorkel. I also have a rain sock on the massive oval filter in my Volant as backup water protection.

I like the idea of cooler and cleaner air. My MPG has taken a hit recently and the basic maintenance has all been done....well, except for coolant flush. I should probably do that.

If I remember correctly there were some posts about the template supplied with these not being correct. Is there anyway to tell if the one I have is correct or not before I drill a giant hole in the fender sometime in the next few weeks?

All I can say is I taped the template to the quarter panel, aligned the body of the snorkel as best I could to determine if the holes "generally" lined up and then started drilling. I had to widen the holes beyond 1/2" to get the snorkel to be as flush as possible but still had issues getting the left most close enough to thread the nylock nut and washer on to draw the snorkel to the panel. The neck of the snorkel v=never got quite flush, but it's fine.

Well, installed my snorkel today and what a pain!
I guess there are still kits out there with the wrong template...mine being one of them :/

I herd the template was fixed so I followed the instruction as is and the holes where about 3/4" off and I have an extra hole that isn't covered by the snorkel body. The template was also missing the holes for the two 114mm holes.

Does anyone know exactly how water if separated at the snorkel head? The pictures show it leaving out the vertical slits but mine are completely closed. Wondering if mine is not completely cut or...?

    UPDATE November 19, 2022

I have a few thousand miles on the snorkel now and it’s still looks like new after several muddy trips and being sand blasted on a very windy sand dune trip. No road noise at all.

The 3M tape I used to stick it to the pillar gave up in the hot socal sun. I have since drilled the pillar and used 2 brass well nuts and a little bit of white Flex Seal. This set up is rock solid and totally sealed. I highly recommend skipping the rivets and using the well nuts (see pic)

Random stuff. Oh! and converted to non ADD 4x4.
The gap seems correct. I remember when I did my snorkel that I was not a big fan of the whole being that big, but at the end of the day it worked out. Something I did is to put in a slightly bigger stainless washers and that was just for peace of mind. Cheers!

Just installed mine from dobinsons too. Same exact issue…pretty disappointed. Should’ve just went with eBay to save myself the extra money, especially with the headache with the template being so off.
Did you happend to receive 6 studs for your snorkel body? I have 6 mounting holes, but 5 studs to snorkel body only. I drilled 6 holes as well. But luckily I didn’t tap the hole by the antenna any bigger than the small pilot hole I started with. Was able to get mine to fit by filing some edges of the tapped holes.

Emailed them about why my snorkel body has 6 mounting points, but only received 5 studs along 6 nuts and washers. This is their response back to me.

Installed mine a few weeks ago and for what ever reason it sits about 1" to far from the A pillar for the bracket to make good contact. I had a few 3/4" plastic spacers on hand that I used for a few weeks but finally whipped up a better, more permanent spacer. Used a piece of 3/4 x 1" aluminum. Now it makes much better contact.

Very smart idea. I have been running mine without any a pillar bracket for months and have had no issues. The six bolts that hold mine to the quarter panel are adequate. I may do what you did tho!!

I’ve been running mine with the pilar mount for about 3 years without an issue. I even ran it hard enough through a tree I broke the plastic screen across the opening and it stayed on. To me the fender is replaceable and reversible if need be the A pillar not so much.
