Probably doesnt have many years left on the road, if that rust happens to be thru the undercarriage too.

Some random asshole decided to scream at me for basically no reason today...

Let's get one thing straight; I am not from around here and I have never been here before. I have certainly never been to Sharkey's Bar and Grill. My cousin in Rochester told me about the place, and it was not that far from my hotel, so I decided to scout the place out ahead of my dad's arrival.

Sharkey's was a zoo; I made a left turn into the parking lot, then turned around and proceeded to go out the same way I'd come in. A young couple in an older Subaru Forester made a left turn into the same entrance I'd come in and was attempting to exit through, at a rather high rate of speed. The guy driving the Subaru started angrily gesturing at me and I thought this was very nervy of him, considering that he'd seemingly blindly careened into the parking lot...

It was really nice out, and I had the windows down in the truck. As I drove past the Subaru, the driver yelled that this was a one-way; I just ignored him. As stated above, the parking lot was a zoo, and there were no signs saying it was one way...

There was a guy in a Silverado waiting to make a left turn from what was apparently the side of the parking lot I should have been on, and shouted the window, asking if I was on a one-way street. He confirmed that I was, and I figured I'd better just get out there before I triggered anymore Karen motorists.

As I made a right out of the parking lot, a middle-aged man in a white Mitsubishi Outlander was making left into the parking lot. He screamed "What the fuck is your problem?!?!" I had done absolutely nothing to engage with anybody at that point, but this perfect stranger swearing at me pissed me off; I stuck my arm out the window and flipped off the guy in that Mitsubishi. That was that.

 

You did get out of there soon enough.

I’ve had a few parking lot Karen get made at me too.
I usually just smile and wave at them. Like really make a effort to wave. Like it’s someone you haven’t seen in awhile. It usually confuses them just long enough to make a clean get away.

 

A short time later, I ended up making a friend and discovering a place to eat; As I was driving back to the hotel, I ended up behind a black 2008 DCSB TRD Off-Road. The Taco turned onto the road leading my hotel as well and ended up turning into the parking lot of the Aldi next to my hotel. I followed him into the Aldi parking lot and ended up chatting with him for quite a bit. He ended up telling me that he owned a bar and restaurant in Baldwinsville called Sammy Malone's (named after the main character from Cheers). My dad and I ended up going to Sammy's for dinner, and the food was great!

 

The bar owner, a guy named Tommy, had owned his black 2008 Taco since new. He undercoated the frame, and it still rotted, this being New York. He missed his replacement deadline, but had the frame welded so (A) the truck was safe to drive and (B) it was would pass NY state inspection. The truck ran and drove great and had just 156K miles, but he is reluctantly selling it because of the frame issues. He also has a 2018 Tacoma.

 

The red line shows how I entered and exited the parking lot, and the blue line shows how I should have exited. The parking lot is empty in this satellite imagery, but as stated above, it was a total zoo last night...

 

Most NY and East coast/ mid Atlantic people are rude AF.

 

naw def not you! Lets say most of my experience is MD, while there were/are some cool people there. MOST were generally rude...not all but maybe i found i ran into people like what Charlie describes.

I'm glad we didn't end up going there. Like I said, we ended up going to a bar owned by a fellow Tacoma owner!

New York has one incredibly obnoxious law that I discovered yesterday evening when I refueled at a Speedway station in Liverpool. Apparently, it is illegal to leave a vehicle unattended while the gas pump is operating, even if you are just sitting int the car or cleaning the windshield. A good number of gas stations still have the "auto pump" feature, but newer ones have the locking mechanism removed...



I don't know they plan on enforcing this at gas stations that still have the locking mechanism, but if some employee or even a cop told me that I couldn't sit in my truck while the gas pumped, there would likely be a profanity-laced tirade; I hate nanny state shit like this!
