Should a Stealership be willing to discount a leftover 2010 D.C. Off Road 4x4 with less than 20 Miles? How much off sticker would be a fair offer as now it is a year old?

Depends... I bought my '07 the very last week of 2007. It was the last one on the lot, the rest were all '08s. It wasn't discounted but once they knew I was trying to get them to move on their price because it was a model year older, the sales manager stepped in and played ball. There's no reason you'd pay the same amount for a vehicle that's a model year older because you'll get screwed when you sell it. A lot of dealerships have advertised discounts and incentives for older model year vehicles. How much you get them to come down is up to the dealership, but I got mine down quite a bit (about $5,000 plus a better value on my trade in).

Gotta be willing to walk away. If they don't want to make a deal on the 2010, tell them to bring around a 2011 and start all over again. Make it clear you're not going to pay 2011 prices for a 2010. Might work, might not but if they're a good dealer they'll want that leftover gone.

I got a great deal on a leftover similiar to Pugga.
Last one on the lot with lots of newer models surrounding it.
I had to be willing not to be too picky on some things but the price was so worth it.
It met my "must haves" like 4WD, DC, auto & tow.
4 yrs later I do not care and own it. Its a great truck.

They'll discount, but won't give it away. If you are going for a two year lease, it may actually pay to get the '11 because of the higher residual.

doesn't matter (on the tacoma's anyway). if you know how to buy a car, you should be paying at the most a few hundred over invoice, so the difference would be in the change year over year in the invoice price.

Not necessarily true... the invoice for a 2010 and a 2011 may be the same. They might be willing to let the 2010 go for less because it's a depreciating asset and the longer they own it, the more money they lose on it.

it is generally true for the tacoma's because they keep their production level down. yes, how dealers deal with you varies, but the point is, IF you know how to buy a car, you can get them for the same markup over invoice at any time of the year. i helped someone on this board get one at barely over invoice, but i had to speak to 5 dealers first. if the invoice price is the same year over year, i can get the newer year just as cheap as the previous year (but i think your point is not every dealership will do that, and you are correct).

the only exception to this is when the dealer needs to sell one or two more cars to hit a holdback milestone, which pushes their factory payment up - and that is extremely rare to be able to hit it at exactly the right time (end of the month - and be that one car that will get it done). my buddy (who owns numerous dealerships) once sold a car at a $4000 loss because he stood to gain an additional $50K or so by hitting a milestone.

actually, it's not so much that it's a depreciating asset (which is partially true) - as they're paying flooring on the cars.
