The wife’s 22 4Runner has a stick for the transfer case, I’m curious as to why our trucks do not.

Older platform still built in Japan. Like the manual transmission Tacoma, it’ll probably be phased-out in a future revision. Between saving weight & cost and “catching up” with other manufacturers in the market, there isn’t enough demand for things that are simple, tried & true (outside of TacomaWorld, of course).

Still wish I’d bought an FJ Cruiser before prices went insane. It was the last vehicle Toyota sold in the US with a stick shift & mechanical transfer case. If there had been a retro FJ Truck, I might’ve done it anyway.

Most 4Runners have the dial like our trucks. Weird that yours does not.

MTs are lighter then their automatic counterparts lol

There is a 5th gen 4Runner out there with FJ running gear, MT and the manual t case. For the life of me I can't find the guys Instagram but still.... Cool af

And I'll be honest.... An FJ truck or even troopy variant would be the tits McGee

There's certain trims that have the manual transfer case for the 4Runner. It's not weird, it's just trim level dependent.

The manual transmission is never going away. I remember when the g2 came out. Everyone panicked then. Years later when the g3 came put same fear. Toyota realizes that 5% of the auto drivers control 80% of the buzz around a truck. I suspect they will even figure out how to have a manual EV.

Actually if I'm not mistaken, they filed a patent for a manual EV, but who knows where that will go

As someone who's got experience with both, agree to disagree lol

Manual everything is just always more satisfying imo

Ford did a concept EV Mustang MT a few years ago, and Honda made a couple hybrid models with MT too.

Seems weird to me considering they have to have that extra bit on the assembly line. That being said.... I'm all about manual everything lol.

Manual hybrid is easy. I remember that EV mustang too.... Cool stuff

Just traded my 97 Land Cruiser with the 4 speed slushbox for a 96 Taco with the R150. It was nice to not have to worry about stalling on trails, but it’s fun to be able to row my own gears again.

I might take out the Marlin Crawler short-throw kit since I actually kind of like the long throws, or at least I did on my old 98 with the W56.

I sure hope you're right. Toyota's rise in the US market was in part because of their success with MT's. I just can't see them turning their back on that. At least I'm one that's hoping they don't.

I know what I'm about to write is akin to sacrilege, but I want Automatic Climate Control, Automatic Volume Control for the Audio System, Power Memory Seats, Automatic Wipers..., and a Manual Transmission.

Sounds like my Alltrack. Too bad VW didn’t find the US market worthy of the Aussie-spec Amarok.

I love auto climate control. This is my 3rd vehicle with auto climate and I won't go back. I don't want to have to turn temperature knobs back and forth as it gets hot and cold. I just want to control my transmission :D:burnrubber:

Lol the Ranger? Got em here in central America, occasionally see a few up past the border. I liked the one I used in Belize.

No, I’m referring to the one built exclusively for Australia with a manual transmission, low-range transfer case and mechanical locking rear diff. If VW had sold it here (left-hand drive, or course), I would’ve bought one.

For those who've driven both SR 5MT and TRD 6MT, which do you prefer?

Here is my opinion... I've driven 1 6MT Tacoma and it was great. I drove a SR 5MT and immediately stalled it. Took me a solid two minutes to get that thing moving in 1st gear.

    ^^ both 2017 tacos
